Ex-Lincoln Project Co-Founder Drops Accusations – Opinion

It is a source of hilarious drama, and the Lincoln Project as well as all its associates are always on top. They sought to take down President Donald Trump–and took themselves down with their actions.

The Lincoln Project posted this article about Steve Schmidt (co-founder) and a former associate.

Schmidt quit the organization on February 20, 2021 after news about John Weaver’s sexual allegations against him and reports regarding a Utah house that he had purchased. The Lincoln Project’s post says he hasn’t been associated with the organization since November 2021. That’s an interesting discrepancy.

The group’s post of course made one wonder what Schmidt said that the Lincoln Project wants to run away from.

Schmidt was tweeting false accusations.

Some comments are about Maggie Haberman, New York Times reporter and Lincoln Project. You have to love when Never Trump supporters implode and fire on each other. At this point, with folks who were connected to the Lincoln Project, that’s a continuing implosion. Grab the popcorn and relax as they figuratively shoot at each other.

“Today will be my final series of tweets on Access JOURNALISM and the deep rot that afflicts so much of the American political press,” Schmidt tweeted in a lengthy thread. “There is no democracy or freedom without a free press. Let me give you an example of what is happening by sharing a few emails I received between @maggieNYT & myself.

You should be aware of a few things. (A. Haberman threatens to kill me, then accuses of menacing. It’s ludicrous. (B. Haberman says I threatened her by threatening to kill her with an infidavit. It’s mystifying (C) Both @TheRickWilson and I spoke to her in the referenced call. The conversation concerned John Weaver. A NY TIMES story was written by @dannyhakim, and @Jo_Becker on John Weaver’s Lincoln Project. Let me clarify some things. This is how the Weaver story ends. This was the basic point of every story about the period. John Weaver sent sexually explicit messages to men. The entire affair was kept secret
@ProjectLincoln and ignored because dealing with it would have ended the money flow which we were using to live large.”

Schmidt claimed he hadn’t known and wasn’t living large, that he debunked claims about his house, and then he proceeded to attack Haberman, saying she knew before he did.

“In my case that was a house written about in an @ap story by @sppeoples. I debunked these claims this week by making public my financial documents. This was false. The question regarding John Weaver was a difficult one. I answered it by phone for hours. I have not changed my answer. I didn’t know and would have no conceivable reason why I would. Anonymous sources called me a lie on that question. This is false. It is not true. @maggieNYT was aware of this for at least 3 years. When we were on the phone she said it was 10 but denied this in the e-mail.”

Whoops, what’s your response to that one, Maggie? What would Maggie have done?

“I was interviewed for hours about what month I found out in 2020. Did @maggieNYT ever step forward and say to a senior editor on a really big political/investigative story that the premise was wrong? No. A final thing before you send your texts. It is certain that @maggieNYT will portray herself as a victim of all this. She will be deeply affronted that I have released this to show the rot.”

He claims he didn’t “interview” with Trump. Yet that wasn’t the reported story; the reported story was that he wanted a job with Trump, but Trump wasn’t going for it. Schmidt has even admitted that he had met Trump. However, he describes it as a meeting with him because of curiosity.

I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him, but I think it’s hilarious that he seems–in the process–to want to burn down others who have attacked Trump.
