We’ve seen a lot of polls that have shown how Joe Biden is cratering.
But I have to admit when I saw this new, NBC News poll, in particular the numbers about what party Americans thought would do better on virtually every issue, I went, “Wow,” and that doesn’t oversell it.
It’s numbers like this that the Democrats are probably seeing in their internal polling, and this is why they’re panicking in the race in Virginia and trying to throw all kinds of things up against the wall to help out Terry McAuliffe, whose campaign has been collapsing.
Even Chuck Todd, when he’s introducing the poll, refers to it as “scary” for the Democrats.

“Americans have lost their confidence” in Biden and “their optimism for the country,” Todd says. No kidding. This must be a shocking sight, particularly with the election in Virginia coming up and the midterm elections next year.
Biden’s numbers were terrible. Only 42 percent of Americans hailed his work performance, and 54 percent did not approve. It was a very disapproving percentage. This, after being at 49 percent – 48 percent in August.
Seven in 10 adults, including almost half of the Democrats in the survey — 48 percent — believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.
Perhaps worst for Biden personally only 37 percent believed believe he’s able to handle a crisis, 47 percent think he’s not able. Only 37 percent think he’s competent, while 50 percent — the majority — think that he is not.
As I mentioned, this was the part that shocked me most about the survey. This is because it will likely tell the story in 2022’s elections, if that holds.

In virtually every category or dynamic, the Republicans were the ones that respondents thought would do a better work, almost by double digits. On the all important ranking of the economy, they’re up by 18 points and that’s one of the lower double digits. Some of the others — like on the border at 27 points — are real blow-outs.
The Republicans have double the points on inflation (24 points), criminality (22 points), national safety (21 points), and effectiveness and getting things done (12 points). Todd slips in a little bias describing the last part — “shockingly” — Republicans being ranked better at getting things done.
“Democrats face a country whose opinion of President Biden has turned sharply to the negative since April,” said Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies.
“The promise of the Biden presidency — knowledge, competence and stability in tough times — have all been called into question,” Horwitt continued.
“What people voted for was stability and calm,” added fellow Democratic pollster Peter Hart. “And what they got was instability and chaos.”
Democrats may be dead if the current trend continues. When even NBC has to report this and can’t really spin it, you know just how bad it truly is. His inability to find the right way out for America is a constant concern for Democrats hoping Biden will be able to get out of his spiral.
