Chuck Todd is unraveling in front of all eyes. Chuck Todd is unraveling before the eyes of the nation. Meet the Press host on Friday reacted to the overturning of Roe V. Wade by comparing it to the ongoing “shattering” of democracy in America and ominously warned conservative politicians about the “tinder box” they have created. He also lashed out at Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, calling their appointments “unfair” and “out of bounds.”
Getting emotional, he lamented, “Just take a step back and think about the consequential actions of this week. The two Supreme Court rulings that undid — one law 110 years old. This one is fifty years old. You have what former President Trump attempted to do to democracy.”
An almost unsteady Todd continued:
Consider the divide Donald Trump created in the Immigration debate. 2016 is a great year to reflect back. It was the 2016 election that saw Donald Trump’s triumph and introduced his political agenda. We lost a lot of our stability in American society to him. He was the key to destroying the stability of reproductive rights, stability about immigration, and stability, in certain ways, on the democracies.
The NBC journalist lectured the right on what they’ve long fought to achieve, Roe.
You know what, this week has been very troubling. An ex-President could face trial. This is — we’re a tinder box now. My suspicion is that elected officials, especially on the left, have put blinders on, and are not seeing what’s happening to society.
Chuck Todd might need to look at his own blinders. He attacked Gorsuch, Barrett and other news anchors earlier in the day. The anchor attacked, sounding almost like a far-left internet commentator.
You could argue, I suppose, that Donald Trump’s two appointees were out of line. It was basically a vacancy that happened with just a year to Barack Obama’s term. You know what, Mitch McConnell made a pretext to suggest that the position couldn’t be filled before after the Presidential election. But he wasn’t convinced when Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died a month ahead of the 2020 election, said it. You know what? A lot of people feel that Gorsuch and Barrett were unfairly placed or out of line.
Shortly after the decision was announced, Todd trashed the Court as “rigged.”

11:56LESTER HOLT: Chuck, you should be with us, because we can’t overlook the fact that this court was created in extraordinary ways by Donald Trump.
CHUCK TODD : And Mitch McConnell. You could argue, I suppose, that Donald Trump’s two appointees were out of line. It was basically a vacancy that happened with just a year to Barack Obama’s term. Then, Mitch McConnell created a precedent to say the vacancy couldn’t fill until after the election. He didn’t believe that when Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away, which was essentially one month prior the 2020 election. You know what? A lot of people feel that Gorsuch and Barrett were unfairly placed or out of line.
It technically fell within the Constitution. Was it ethical? And I think that that’s what’s going to — why there is I think such anger, more anger than normal. However, Donald Trump is the one who has left this legacy. His discomfort about his legacy is something that I find fascinating. This is something he’s still learning. He has been involved on both sides. When he was a politician, when he tried to enter the political arena in the late ’90s, early 2000s, he talked about how pro-choice he was, then all of a sudden he had to adopt this pro-life political language, he wasn’t very good at it, there was a famous change he had with our former colleague Chris Matthews were he started talking about, “okay, if you’re going to criminalize it,” and he said, you know, “you may have to charge the woman who has the abortion,” And of course he ends up having to walk that back. He was not passionate or deeply knowledgeable about life, but it was a sign that he isn’t really familiar with the subject. That reaction and that word-swapping reaction that he gave to all of this, I believe tells us that he is likely uncomfortable about this. However, he doesn’t know the right way to convey it. Donald Trump is someone you and I know very well. There’s a part of me — the fact that he’s not spiking the football, “I’m the one who overturned Roe,” tells you how uncomfortable he is, because he likes to spike the football and take a lot of credit for things.

CHUCK TODD – Take a look back at the implications of this week. The two Supreme Court rulings that undid — one law 110 years old. This is the 50th anniversary. This is what Trump tried to do to democracy. In chilling detail, we learned this over the last few weeks. We are only two hours from an unprecedented constitutional crisis, and that was yesterday in particular. Consider the divide Donald Trump created in the Immigration debate. 2016 is a great year to reflect back. The 2016 election, and Donald Trump’s entry into politics was a turning point. The election of Donald Trump and his politics shattered much of the American stability. He is the one who has broken down stability in the areas of reproductive rights, immigration stability, and, perhaps, democracy.
Our country is in an extremely difficult place. Our society is not just divided. Our world is divided so deeply that it feels impossible to reconcile with one another. Information silos divide us. Let me be clear, this week’s events have caused me to worry about how we will all react. An ex-President could face trial. This is — we’re a tinder box now. I believe our elected leaders (especially on the left) are wearing blinders and don’t fully understand what’s happened to society.
