Trump was the headliner at a Macomb County, Michigan rally on Saturday. He was there to support the candidacies a number of MAGA-friendly candidates. Tom LaDuke, my colleague has the story about Donald Trump’s rally in Michigan. He made some critical endorsements for November 2022.
Michigan is crucial and winnable for the GOP. It has the potential to put a presidential candidate over the top, but there are so many shenanigans in Democrat strongholds that it often seems like the real voting happens after the doors to the polling places close; see You Won’t Believe the Shocking Level Of Vote Fraud Exposed By the Michigan Recount.
I’m not sure if Donald Trump showing up in Michigan is linked, but Congressman Fred Upton announced his retirement on Tuesday.
Fred Upton (Republican who has served the House of Representatives for the longest time) decided not to run for reelection but to take his retirement instead.
Upton was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach then-President Donald Trump in January 2021, saying in a statement that “our country cannot and will not tolerate any effort by any president to impede the peaceful transfer of power.” Now, Upton is the fourth of those 10 to retire, joining Reps. Anthony Gonzalez (R-Ohio), John Katko (R-N.Y.) and Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) in exiting Congress.
Upton was indifferent about the redistricting of his district. However, both the old and new maps show the district as having an R+9 advantage. Upton raised lots of money but is now on collision course with Representative Bill Huizenga (Trump-endorsed primary opponent), an angry electorate and poor voting record. Upton has decided to take his pension instead of fighting and move on.
Upton is the fourth of ten Vichy Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump over the bullsh** phone call with Ukrainian President Zelensky. Peter Meijer (MI) and Liz Cheney (WY) are also dead. Wyoming GOP has disowned Liz Cheney. Peter Meijer will lose the primary to John Gibbs, who is Trump’s endorsed candidate.

The more the media questions President Trump’s influence in the GOP and predicts a split between him and the party, the more he proves them wrong. He is likely to see to his defeat of all Republicans in the House that voted for him to be impeached and to shape the course of 2024’s campaign.
