Enid, Oklahoma police say a dog shot a woman on Thursday.
Tina Springer, 44, was sitting in the passenger seat of a Ford F-150 waiting at a train crossing when she was wounded, Fox 25 reported.
79-year-old Brent Nash, the truck’s driver, told authorities that he had his pistol laying on the center console and was waiting for the train to pass, the Enid News & Eagle reported.
Springer is Nash’s caretaker, according to the Eagle.
Nash said his dog, a yellow lab who was sitting in the backseat, suddenly jumped onto the center console, causing the gun to discharge a round into Springer’s thigh.
When officers responded to the scene after receiving a call regarding an accidental shooting, they found a wounded Springer and an unholstered .22 caliber handgun lying under the center console, according to the Eagle.
Officers found evidence that corroborated Nash’s story: a burn mark under the center console.
Police also theorized that cloth from the car’s seat covers could have gotten into the trigger well of the gun and lead to it firing, the Eagle reported.

Springer was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for her injuries.
