Disney Launches Its ‘Pride Collection’ Children’s Clothing Line – Opinion

Disney has elevated its LGBTQ game.

On Monday, the Mouse launched its new “Pride Collection” clothing line for children. DisneyConnect.com sent a statement:

The Disney Pride Collection is the result of LGBTQIA+ employees, allies and partners at The Walt Disney Company. It is a testament to their extraordinary contributions and position at The Walt Disney Company’s heart. Our solidarity extends to all members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

“Pride” versions of Star Wars merchandise will be available, as well as lines promoting other Disney staples:

All of the profits made from Disney Pride Collection sales will go to charities that support LGBTQIA+ families and youth. The sale of merchandise in the Pixar Pride Collection includes Marvel, Star Wars, and Marvel.

According to the announcement, U.S. profits are going to 17 organizations related to the company, which includes the following:

Ali Forney Centre
Ali Forney Center (AFC), is the biggest organization that cares for Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual youths. They have often been rejected by their families, and forced to live on the streets due to their identities.

GLSEN
GLSEN is a non-profit organization that creates safe, affirming learning spaces for K-12 students.

ARELAS
ARELAS Spain, a Spanish charity that offers support to trans kids and their families has been active for five years in achieving equal opportunities and rights of Spanish trans youths in every area of both public and private life.

Zebra Coalition
Zebra Coalition’s mission is to help LGBTQ+ youth thrive. Zebra Coalition envisions a place where every LGBTQ+ youth feels safe and empowered.

SF LGBT Center
The SF LGBT Center’s mission is to connect its diverse community to opportunities, resources, and each other to achieve its vision of a stronger, healthier, and more equitable world for LGBTQ people and allies.

There are also support groups for LGBT issues in Australia, Germany, France, Italy, France and Japan.

Things have certainly changed for Walt Disney’s brainchild. Once upon a time — and for many decades — sex was the last thing anyone might connect to the company. But the politics of sexual identity have grown in evident importance to it, and there’s no indication such emphasis is set to diminish.

The clothing line’s timing comes just after Christopher Rufo reported on behind-the scenes efforts to promote Rainbow programming all over the board.

Many have noticed that Disney, despite the fallout of that video’s controversy, has remained silent about its politically inflaming content Roe v. Wade SCOTUS leak. But the new clothing release makes clear it’s full speed ahead where sexual/gender identity is concerned.

Disney, of course, joins a chorus as we approach June — otherwise known as “Pride Month.”

Target, for example, is celebrating with new fashion lines offering chest-binding tops and “packing underwear.”

As for July and beyond, it’s going to be a colorful year:

July
6th: Day of Omnisexual Visibility
11.-17.11. Non-Binary Awareness Week
14th International Non-Binary Day
International Drag Day 16th

August
14th: Gay Uncle Day

September
16th – 22nd: Bisexual Awareness Week
23rd Bisexual Visibility Day

October
LGBT History Month (USA & Canada)
11. National Coming Out Day
19th: International Pronoun Day
21st Spirit Day
24th Annual Asexual Awareness Week
26th Intersex Awareness Day

November
Trans Awareness Month

13th – 19th: Trans Awareness Week
20th: Transgender Day Of Remembrance

December

8th Pansexual Pride Day
10. Human Rights Day

Disney was once about princesses and princes. The patriarchy now includes princesses, so the company is really growing up. It’s no longer merely a magical kingdom for boys and girls.

Or, for that matter, ladies and gentlemen…
