The Russian invasion of Ukraine can only be described in two ways. The Russians’ aggression is unjustified and they should be stopped in a reasonable manner. Second, Ukraine is doing all they can to bring more countries into the conflict, including exaggerated claims.
People with the ability to think beyond five minutes can see that Ukraine is worthy of support. However, they also know that Russia’s broader war on Ukraine would be a terrible idea. Adam Kinzinger, however, isn’t one of these people. The Never Trumper, which called for an enforced NATO no-fly zone for Ukraine a few days back, has returned to that request based on news that Russia is attacking a nuclear power station.
It is an excellent moment to reiterate my demand for a no-fly zone at the request of the Ukraine government. We will need to be more aggressive if the situation continues.

While most Republicans look at Kinzinger and believe he shouldn’t be near the levers of power because of his views on the former president, I look at Kinzinger and believe he shouldn’t be near the levers of power because he’s a dangerous moron. Unchecked Neoconservatism manifests as a need to start another war. What?
It is horrible what is going on in Ukraine. It is against the United States’ national interests to engage in nuclear Russian Roulette with Vladimir Putin. If you set up a no-fly zone, that means you’ve got to start shooting down Russian planes. Once that happens, the relatively contained war in Ukraine spreads from the eastern part of the country to multiple nations in Europe, and that’s assuming Putin doesn’t just save you the trouble and launch nuclear weapons.
Then there’s this from Lindsey Graham, who appeared on Sean Hannity’s show Thursday night to call for the assassination of Putin.
Are there any Brutus soldiers in Russia? What about a Russian Colonel Stauffenberg who is more effective?
This is the only way to end it.
You would be doing your country – and the world – a great service.

Yes, I’m sure that will help deescalate matters. Putin is certain to call off the invasion of Ukraine now that an American senator has called on him for his assassination. How long do you think it will take the Russians to start using Graham’s statement as a propaganda boon? All this does is solidify an “us vs. them” mentality that will drive support for the war inside Russia.
These are the same shortsighted ideas that lead to 20 years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq. What Graham and Kinzinger are proposing is not based on any forethought. They haven’t weighed the risks or considered the costs. They are just shooting from the hip, and shooting from the hip is a surefire way to hit something you didn’t intend to hit. War is not a game, and I don’t think most Americans care to enter another major one so that two politicians can feel tough.
Again, I support Ukraine’s right to sovereignty. I’m all for helping them in ways that make sense. It doesn’t make sense to begin a war against Russia by shooting down their aircrafts, or suggesting that their leader be killed. Americans should stop supporting this kind of stupidity.
