Dave Chappelle Takes Name Off Alama Mater Theater and Trolls the Free Speech Haters With New Name – Opinion

Dave Chappelle continues to be controversial. He made an enormous donation to Washington D.C.’s high school and encouraged those who were against him to make the same. Amid heavy criticism for his Netflix specials and supposedly “anti-trans” jokes, Chappelle challenged those angry with his comedy to donate to The Duke Ellington School of the Arts in order to build a new theater and support their arts program. Chappelle was then asked by the school to name the theater in his honor.

“Having the theater named after me is a great honor. This was not something I had in mind, nor did it come about from my heart. At the request of our beloved school’s founder, Peggy Cooper Kafritz, I accepted,” he continued.

“In April, I intend to honor that request. You can object to me receiving this award by donating to the school. If you are in favor of the theater being named ‘Chappelle’, I urge you to donate to the school, noting your approval.

But Dave Chappelle is a comedian, and despite still facing backlash and insults for his comedy routines, he hasn’t quite finished trolling the ‘woke’ masses.

Chapelle announced today that he declined the invitation to be added to the Duke Ellington theater. Theater for Artistic Freedom and Expression instead will be the name of the new theater.

Now patrons and students will never forget the value of artists’ freedoms, while not being able to discredit the generous spirit of one the greatest comedians in this century.
