On Tuesday, when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of religious liberty in a Maine religious school choice case, the leftist media went into melted down and wailed about the mythical wall between “separation of church & state.” They have no problem with taxpayer funds going to “drag queen story hour” at public schools but allowing parents to use taxpayer vouchers to get a Godly education is a bridge too far for the leftists.
It was the most recent evidence. NBC Nightly News when anchor Lester Holt wailed over the court’s decision by claiming “the Supreme Court has taken another brick out of the wall separating church and state approving the use of taxpayer money to support religious education.”
Holt then reached out to Pete Williams, a justice correspondent. Williams explained the details. “The ruling is a victory for Amy Carson who lives with her husband in Maine. They sent their daughter to the same religious high school they attended, Bangor Christian” Williams announced.
He summarized the facts of the case as well as the court’s vote breakdown:
Because the Carsons received an explicitly religious education at the school, they were not eligible for tuition funding from the state. Maine provides taxpayer funds to those whose families don’t live near public high schools. However, the state prohibits them from using this money for religious instruction. This is because it doesn’t want to subsidize religion. By a vote of 3-1, the Supreme Court declared that it was discrimination based on religious belief. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority and stated that Maine advocates a tighter separation of state and church than the federal Constitution requires. He stated that once the taxpayer funds are used to support public schools it can’t exclude religious programs.
Williams aired a soundbite from Tom Goldstein, the co-founder of SCOTUSBlog who bemoaned how the court decision “is one of a series of decisions in which the court’s conservative majority has been incredibly protective of religion and has said that the government cannot discriminate including when it’s spending public money.”
NBC is not alone, as NewsBusters previously reported, CNN Zoom masturbator Jeffrey Toobin once again proved that he knows nothing about the constitution when he decried that the First Amendment “is breaking down under the conservative majority.”
Geico, Liberty Mutual and Progressive made this anti-religious liberty comment possible on NBC News. You can contact them via the linked information to let them know of biased programming that they have funded.

Eastern at 7:11 p.m.LESTER HOLT: Tonight, the Supreme Court removed yet another brick from the wall which separated state and church. It approved the taxpayer-funded support for religious education. Pete Williams.
PETE WILLIAMS. The decision is a win for Amy Carson. She lives in Maine with husband, Pete Williams. Bangor Christian was the school that they sent their daughter. The school teaches important values, they say.
AMY CARON: This is an extension to how she was raised at home. The school’s beliefs are consistent with our own.
WILLIAMS: However, because the school offers an explicitly religious education the Carsons are not eligible for tuition money from the state. He stated that once a state gives taxpayer money to public schools, they cannot exclude religious donations.
TOM GOLDSTEIN, SCOTUSBLOG COFUNDER: This decision is just one in a number of cases where the conservative court majority was incredibly supportive of religion. They have said that government can’t discriminate when spending public funds.
WILLIAMS: In dissent, Justice Sonia Sotomayor said the decision “leads us to a place where separation of church and state becomes a constitutional violation.”
The decisions regarding Roe v. Wade’s overturn and the ban on guns being carried in public are still to be made. These are just 13 of the rulings that have yet to be made. It’s also possible that this term might not end until July. Lester?
HOLT: Pete Williams. Thank you.
