Dan Crenshaw Says Dems Failed ‘Test’ Americans Gave Them in 2018: ‘Open Borders, Socialism’

“The answer is ‘Yikes.'”

Former Navy SEAL and current Texas GOP Rep. Dan Crenshaw suggested Wednesday evening, by way of a tweet that has since gone viral, that Democrats’ regaining control of the House of Representatives in 2018 was a test posed by the American people.

According to Crenshaw, House Democrats failed. Badly.

“I think Americans gave the House back to Dems in 2018 to test the waters, like ‘let’s see what they’re about,'” Crenshaw wrote.

What Democrats are about, Crenshaw said, are, “Open borders, socialism, non-condemnation of anti-semitism, Green New Deal, infanticide, partisan investigations.”

Crenshaw’s tweet garnered more than 13,000 retweets and thousands of comments. In it, he referenced several Democrat positions that have proven unpopular with conservatives and even some liberals.

The Texas lawmaker alluded to various controversies involving the progressive wing of the Democrat party, notably Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar.

Ocasio-Cortez is a prominent proponent of both democratic socialism and the Green New Deal. Her support for those policies have led to significant blowback, mostly by critics on the right. Meanwhile, Omar has been heavily criticized for repeatedly making comments that many have interpreted as anti-Semitic.

The 35-year-old Crenshaw has been pegged as a rising star in the Republican party. A Politico profile from earlier this month pondered if the Texas Rep. was a the “future of the GOP?” Crenshaw received bipartisan praise for his gracious response to being mocked by “Saturday Night Live” cast member Pete Davidson in early November of 2018.

After Davidson was lambasted for offhandedly remarking that Crenshaw “lost his eye in war or whatever,” the Texas Republican reacted by tweeting that he tries hard “not to be offended.”

Crenshaw went on “SNL” the following week and accepted Davidson’s apology in a cordial and widely praised segment.

He even reached out to give Davidson words of encouragement in December after the comedian shared a troubling post to Instagram saying he no longer wanted “to be on this earth anymore.”
