There was a time when late-night comedians were funny. Some late-night comedians, such as Jimmy Kimmel or Stephen Colbert, have traded their comedy for political operative status.
But last night, you could see how far the “anti-fascist, pro-norm” folks like Stephen Colbert were willing to go to impose the Democrats’ will on you.
On Monday night’s show, Colbert took on the filibuster. There are many things you can say about filibuster that will be hilarious, regardless of how liberal you might approach them. Colbert’s comments were a complete lack of humor. Colbert mocked Sen. Kyrsten Silena (D-AZ), for her clothes and ridiculed her love of filibusters.
CBS’s Stephen Colbert laments that Kyrsten Silena, aka Mrs. Hamburglar, has made the decision to “while her values voting, filibuster was her first love,” even though it is “an antidemocratic tool” which is an accurate description of Kyrsten sinema.
It is also a comedy. pic.twitter.com/qX9QtkjixK

The funny thing about this is Sinema is making sense, talking about how legislation should pass when it has a lot of support, that you shouldn’t be able to push things through without the broad support of Americans, which makes a lot of sense. But they don’t want that. Colbert then also claims the “50 senators who are filibustering ‘voting rights’” don’t represent the majority. No one is actually filibustering “voting rights” but that number is obviously more than 50 since it includes both Sinema and Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and likely some other Democrats, so Colbert’s argument doesn’t even make sense. Additionally, since the Senate is representative of all the US, and the House according to the population, Stephen, keep up to Constitution 101. Keeping the filibuster has the majority of the senators and that’s why it’s still there.
But beyond that, what’s hilarious about all this mania about the filibuster is how Democrats have supported it and used it in the past. In 2020 they actually used it 327 times. They even used the filibuster rule to get 60 votes to pass the Senate bill to sanction Russia over its Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Then they attacked the filibuster.
Colbert continued to discuss the topic with Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
It is quite touching to hear Elizabeth Warren condemn gerrymandering in the Republican Party as a national crisis, even though there are zero House members in Massachusetts, despite having nine districts, and Trump winning 32% of them in 2020. pic.twitter.com/mrETBkW365

I’m not sure why this isn’t an “attack on democracy.” Isn’t she trying to cast doubt on our electoral process? This is because they know that they are going to get pounded in November, that Americans are going to hand them a severe rejection, so they’re already trying to set the table to explain the loss to the base and jack them up.
Warren persists in his lie about Georgians getting water.
Warren falsely asserts that Georgia Republicans have “made it illegal” for voters “to give”.[n]…a drink of water” while waiting to vote even if they’re “waiting tow hours in the hot sun.” (https://t.co/UY1U6dKvgM).
She also claims “not one…Republican” wants “to protect the vote” pic.twitter.com/2Y60HuG1MI

It applies to people who are connected to parties and trying to get people to vote for them. This isn’t a random act of kindness that gives water to anyone.
This next one will be a manic lie to get the base riled up.
Remind liberals constantly that Republicans hate voting and want to steal elections. This will lead to violence. It is radicalization, and Senator Elizabeth Warren with CBS’s Stephen Colbert knows what she’s up to. But none of the other liberals care. pic.twitter.com/Fqj50Nvib2

It is similar to the way they demonize health care, which led to many Republicans being attacked and harassed. This is going to lead to more injuries.
Warren says she would get rid of the filibuster altogether — that she believes in “majority rule” (but doesn’t seem to understand the majority of the Senate is against doing away with the filibuster).
Elizabeth Warren, to a roaring audience’s approval tells CBS’s Stephen Colbert we must eliminate the filibuster “all together” so that we can use “majority rule,” which would allow us to live up to the Founders’ intent for the Senate as well as the nation. pic.twitter.com/PKiYmGLVQZ

Saying that the Founders were about “majority rule” and using the government to impose your will is a complete misunderstanding of the Constitution and a horrible misinterpretation from someone who was supposed to be a law professor. The whole point of the Constitution is about avoiding the failings of the “pure democracy” and simple majority rule, stopping the rule of the mob, while limiting government power and control over Americans.
So what’s Colbert’s norm-preserving response and he’s not joking when he says it? Doing away with the Senate because it is “anti-democratic.”
Colbert doubling down a few moments later: “It’s an anti-democratic institution. That’s just it. 41 million Americans are represented — more are by — by your side than the Republicans and, yet, they could get one more vote.” pic.twitter.com/HBrWWR4nlJ

With their fervent thirst for power and the destruction of all those in opposition, these people are pure raving loons. These people would crush any normal person or norm to achieve what they seek.
So here’s a big question for them.
They will be what they do if they lose the Senate election in November. Sinema is smarter than all of them, as they are aware of how important the filibuster is to the minority. The Democrats will then make a big deal about how essential it is that the Senate has the filibuster. You can bank on this.
