CNNEE’s Juan Carlos López: Ron DeSantis Is ´Quite An Authoritarian’

Juan Carlos Lopez became the anchor of DeSantis Derangement Syndrome. CNN En Español Directo USA, as he called out the Florida governor for his ´authoritarian style of government´ –and for being an alleged Donald Trump copycat – for ending Disney´s special governance and tax status privileges.

The authoritarian label came during a report by Jose Manuel Rodriguez on DeSantis´ ´war´ against Disney that, as the report clearly mentioned further on, threatened DeSantis with fighting against the Parental Rights in Education Act, in defense of the LGBTQ community. Strangely, DeSantis’ four-minute-plus report didn’t mention either the child welfare or the nature of Parental Rights in Education Act.

Lopez had plenty of time to speak about DeSantis.

JUAN CARLOS LOPEZ : We travel from Washington to Florida. We are joined there by José Manuel Rodríguez with a new fight from the Republican governor of that state, Ron DeSantis, who one might say is perhaps the main imitator of former President Donald Trump. It is now up to the multinational Disney which has been one of the largest economic engine of this state. Why did he declare war against Disney? Because he criticised a law he proposed.

JOSEMANUEL RODRIGUEZ – Juan Carlos DeSantis (now in campaign mode) wants to win reelection in his role as Governor and be the candidate to Donald Trump in 2024 primaries. And perhaps, this conservative agenda is pointing in that direction Juan Carlos.

LÓPEZ: And quite an authoritarian style of government, that of Governor DeSantis; he cannot be criticized. There’s hardly any other governor in the United States that would seek to sanction the company that creates the most jobs and greatest resources for his state, over its criticism of a law. It is possible, however that the Republican majority would not be able to repeal the Disney benefits. It will be interesting to see what happens in the aftermath of this controversy. Thank you very much José Manuel Rodríguez, in Florida.

The CNNEE report also called the governor CNNEE: DeSantis Is ´Quite An Authoritarian’ over the state´s redistricting efforts. According to Rodríguez, “Gov. DeSantis hired recently a Republican redistricting consultant. Florida law states clearly that an electoral map cannot be drawn solely on the basis of political or electoral factors. This map adds twenty new Republican districts and eight Democrats. The map also eliminates two Democratic Districts in Orlando in North Florida that have currently black representatives. Democrats label DeSantis’ plan racist, and they threaten to resolve the issue in court.

What is the reason DeSantis was so treacherous? Take note, as per CNNEE:  “DeSantis, Juan Carlos, is in campaign mode, he wants to (win reelection) as governor and also be the alternative to Donald Trump in the 2024 primaries, and perhaps this conservative political agenda points in that direction.”

We´ll be looking forward to how the DeSantis Derangement balloons for the likes of Lopez and his crew at CNNEE.

JUAN CARLOS LOPEZ : We travel from Washington to Florida. Let’s go to José Manuel Rodríguez. José Manuel, the state assembly had been convened to talk about the electoral map, but they are also focusing on the issue of Disney.

JOSÉ MANUEL RODRÍGUEZ: Juan Carlos, pleased to greet you. There are still controversies because Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis appears determined, and already has, to end the Disney special government status for Orlando. This Wednesday, he actually approved the initiative of the governor in Florida’s state Senate. The same will likely happen in the House of Representatives. Here, Republicans have a large majority. Democrats claim that Republicans are retaliating against Disney for questioning the “Don’t Say Gay” law, which bars teachers from discussing gender, sexual orientation or identity in school. Disney is questioning the law since a few weeks. He has promised to help national organizations in this regard. Jackie Toledo (State Representative from Tampa) says Disney is a wonderful partner for Florida. They were granted privileges based on our shared history and our mutual goals. The representative claimed that Disney deceived us. In the year 68, Disney was granted a legal agreement by the government that would allow it to grow. This will have an effect on both this company and Florida. Florida is where Disney provides millions in resources and is its main employer. Rep. Dotie Joseph of Miami has said that taking away this special treatment from Disney for criticizing an agenda, she says is radical-like the governor´s- is something that Juan Carlos countries like Russia and China, do. The economic impact of the measure is not immediately clear, and Disney hasn´t commented on it.

Speaking of controversies and this is what the topic today is about, another is the fact that experts are available in each state to reevaluate the electoral districts in order for them to be more in line with new demographic realities. Sometimes, this is settled in court. Gov. DeSantis hired recently a Republican redistricting consultant. Florida law clearly states that the new electoral map shouldn’t be drawn on political or electoral considerations. This map adds twenty new Republican districts and eight Democrats. The map also eliminates two Democratic Districts in Orlando in North Florida which have currently black members. Democrats accuse DeSantis of being racist and threaten court action. The Republicans made sure that the issue did not reach the highest courts of the nation, so it won’t be a federal but rather a state court. Today, the plenary passed the bill to determine the country’s electoral effects. It was done on conditions set by the chamber and the Senate. Juan Carlos DeSantis is running for governor. He also wants to be an alternative to Donald Trump during the 2024 primaries. This conservative agenda seems to point in this direction Juan Carlos.
