For nearly two years, and with the midterm election coming up, conservatives and Republicans were vilified as conspiracy theorists for raising questions about COVID hospitalization numbers when it came to who was there because of COVID and who just happened to be infected. CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Fox News Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky finally came to the rescue to pose the obvious questions.
Tapper prefaced his late revelation by prefacing to CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta that “The case numbers don’t matter as much as hospitalizations. It’s what the sick are doing that’s most important..”
Tapper was forced to explain what was happening because CNN had lied about the CDC misleading people.
The CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Waensky was questioned how she did it over the weekend by a reporter. There are many COVID patients in hospital. This is a far greater number than the COVID patients. This means they are present for another reason, and that COVID is their cause.
After playing a soundbite of Walensky admitting “up to 40 percent of the patients who are coming in with COVID are coming in not because they’re sick with COVID but because they’re coming in with something else,” Tapper seemed a bit surprised and called it “misleading”:
So the hospitals are still stretched thin because of this, so I’m not trying to take away from that. But if 40 percent in some hospitals – 40 percent of the people who have COVID don’t necessarily have problematic COVID, they’re there because they got in a car accident. Because they have COVID, or they were injured in a car accident, they are being treated as in any hospital. This number is a bit misleading.
Gupta deduced that Walensky was possibly using the numbers from New York State because “it sort of tracks with what she said. And according to Gupta’s recap of the data, “about 57 percent, these are COVID patients, admitted because of or complications from COVID. 43 percent admitted for other reasons and then diagnoses with COVID.”
“I think there needs to be transparency about that in terms of FOR or WITH COVID,” he added.
By the end of the segment, Tapper seemed to be a little irked by the CDC’s inflated numbers. “And we need the clearest picture possible if somebody’s in the hospital with a broken leg and they also have asymptomatic COVID that should not be counted as hospitalized with COVID, clearly,” he huffed.
After CNN’s Brian Stelter (media apologist) decried CNN for spreading panic porn regarding COVID, this comes just days after. And now that they’ve realized there is a lot of lying going on, maybe they’ll have a clue to look into other statistics as well.

JAKE TAPPER – You and I discussed how hospitalizations are not as important as case numbers. What’s more important is the health of patients. Hospitalizations are more important than deaths. The COVID still causes over 1,000 deaths per day.
Rochelle Walensky, CDC director was asked by Dr. Rochelle to tell us how many patients were admitted for COVID and how many with COVID. They’re not there to get COVID, but they are still in the hospital for another reason. Here is what she had to share.
[Cuts to video]
DR. ROCHELLE WALENSKY is the CDC Director. We have found out that as many as 40% of COVID patients are admitted to hospitals because they have another condition.

TAPPER: So the hospitals are still stretched thin because of this, so I’m not trying to take away from that. But if 40 percent in some hospitals – 40 percent of the people who have COVID don’t necessarily have problematic COVID, they’re there because they got in a car accident. Because they have COVID, or they were injured in a car accident, they are being treated as in the hospital. This number is a bit misleading.
DR. SANJAY GUPTA (Yes, Jake). I find it surprising that they haven’t been able more accurately to interpret that data. I think the data that Dr. Walensky’s quoting is from New York State and we’ve been following that data as well.
Let me show you the evidence. She was right. But, 57 percent are patients with COVID. They are admitted due to or complications of COVID. 43 percent were admitted due to other medical reasons, and finally diagnosed with COVID. It is important to have transparency regarding whether COVID is used FOR or WITH.
Jake, the only thing I can tell you again is that COVID is a diagnosis that someone receives at the hospital. Even if the person didn’t arrive for it, the process takes up much of the hospital’s resources in terms of personal protective equipment and infection protocols.
Although that might not be the primary impetus for them to come into the hospital, the process requires lots of effort and resources by the staff of the hospital and testing. They need to be able to view this data better. New York State is, in my opinion, one of few that presents it this way. Other states need to follow their lead.
The American Heart Association – I’m sorry the American Health Association says they have a hard time sort of separating out that data, but clearly New York State’s been able to do it. Others should follow suit.
TAPPER: Yeah. We’re two years into this. And we need the clearest picture possible if somebody’s in the hospital with a broken leg and they also have asymptomatic COVID—
GUPTA: Yeah.
TAPPER — This should clearly not be considered as being hospitalized with COVID.
