Day two of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings brought direct and pointed questions from Republican Senator Josh Hawley (MO) about her history of going easy on child porn cases. But CNN masturbation expert and chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin took strong issue with Hawley’s focus on the serious issue many Americans care about.
Immediately following Hawley’s allotted time to question Jackson, CNN cut away with host Wolf Blitzer looking to Toobin for his take. “Republican Senator Josh Hawley trying to paint Judge Jackson as somehow sympathetic to child porn offenders,” Blitzer scoffed.
Toobin began by whining about how Hawley’s entire time slot was spent on a particular instance of Jackson openly showing sympathy for a child porn offender and suggested the Senator relished in talking about how heinous the crime was:
It was truly extraordinary. This judge has almost been on the court for ten years. We had Senator Hawley ask him a question for almost half an hour about one case, where he was able to recount the horrendous details of, say, pedophilia.
“This is about appealing to the QAnon audience, this cult that is a big presence in Republican Party politics now, that is – where Senator Hawley is trying to ingratiate himself with that group and run for president with their support,” Toobin asserted.
Adding: “This has very little to do with Judge Jackson who, as has come out throughout the hearing today, is one of many judges who have found the sentencing guidelines in these child porn possession cases excessive.”
Perhaps the concerning takeaway is that “many judges” think “the sentencing guidelines” for pedophiles and child porn offenders are “excessive.”
Blitzer sought out senior journalist Abby Philip, who was in agreement with Toobin about Hawley’s use of a “dog whistle to the kind of QAnon-right.”Her insistence was also evident “the substance of the argument, as has been explained many times, don’t really check out.”
But that didn’t address the evidence Hawley presented. He read from Jackson’s ruling, where she complained about how “sex offenders are truly shunned in our society”And how 8-year-olds she claimed were “peers” of an 18-year-old offender who she sentenced to only three months in prison when the “liberal prosecutor” (as Hawley described them) wanted two years.
Josh @HawleyMO: “[Y]You continue to add, “Sex offenders really are shunned by our society.” Just trying to understand, Judge. Is he really the victim? Oder are they the victims? He’s attempting to say that you are sorry. He’s…sorry” pic.twitter.com/I1cNREs65U

Toobin suggested further that Jackson sounds conservative during the segment.
Her language about how she interprets the Constitution struck me as being very conservative. Talking about the role of federal judges was a part of her conversation. She said that her belief in the Constitution’s original intent was what she believed. This language is very closely associated with Justice Scalia and Justice Thomas.
“And I will be curious to see if there are some Democrats who are a little startled by that,” he concluded.
The arrest comes after two CNN producers were convicted of sexual misconduct with minors a few years ago.
Because of the generous sponsorships of Progressive TV and DirecTV this defense against pedophiles or child porn offenders’ sentencing was possible. You can find their contact information here.

Eastern at 5:48 p.m.WOLF BLITZER : Jeffrey, how did you react to the exchange. Republican Senator Josh Hawley tries to portray Judge Jackson as being sympathetic to child porn offenders.
JEFFREYTOOBIN: That was truly extraordinary. There is a judge on this bench who’s been there for almost ten years. We had Senator Hawley ask him a question for almost half an hour about one case, where he was able to recount the horrendous details of, say, pedophilia.
This is about appealing to the QAnon audience, this cult that is a big presence in Republican Party politics now, that is – where Senator Hawley is trying to ingratiate himself with that group and run for president with their support. Judge Jackson, who was clearly criticized for his harsh sentencing in the cases involving child porn, has little to do.
That was a half hour of extraordinary work, and it all came down to one case.
BLITZER: Abby, what’s your reaction to Senator Hawley’s questioning of Judge Jackson in this one case?
ABBY PHILIP – Yes. I believe Jeffrey is correct, and that it is a whistle for QAnon right. As has been stated many times before, the arguments themselves don’t have much substance.

BLITZER. Geoffrey. Geoffrey.
TOOBIN: It’s hard to imagine any votes being changed. That’s great news for Judge, because she has a small but strong Democratic majority and is headed for confirmation.
Her language about how she interprets the Constitution struck me as being very conservative. Talking about the role of federal judges was a part of her conversation. She said that her belief in the Constitution’s original intent was what she believed. This language is very closely associated with Justice Scalia and Justice Thomas. That’s a language that I find very familiar with, and it will be fascinating to learn if some Democrats might feel a bit startled.
