CNN Host Asks Guest Why Republicans ‘Have a Soft Spot for Putin’

CNN Newsroom quickly changed gears during coverage of Ukraine’s border dispute with Russia. Tucker Carlson, Fox News Star and all the Republican Party were accused by Tucker Carlson of having a soft spot for Russia.

CNN Newsroom co-host Alisyn Camerota kicked off the slime fest by lying about Fox host Tucker Carlson claiming “One of the primetime hosts does not see the distinction between Vladimir Putin, the leader in Ukraine and doesn’t understand the difference between an autocracy or a fledgling democracy.”Camerota then broadcast a soundbite from Carlson, arguing that it was not in America’s national interests to get into the Russia-Ukraine war.

Vladimir Putin is the enemy we fear most. They scream. He can’t hurt Ukraine. It turns out that Russiagate is more powerful than we thought. Steele’s dossier has been discredited. Washington has not yet debunked the Steele dossier. It is disloyal and loyal to Ukraine, but not to Russia. They’re both foreign countries that don’t care anything about the United States. It’s kind of bizarre.

After hearing what Carlson had to say, Camerota asked her guest, Bill Browder the head of the Global Magnitsky Justice Campaign why he thinks “Many right-leaning Republicans in America have a soft spot to Putin.

Browder, realizing that not all Republicans are the same, replied “there are many Republicans that I have worked with in the Senate or House of Representatives who are just as tough on Russia as anyone else.” Browder showed a little bit of commonsense and joined Camerota to vilify Carlson. Putin’s “clearly ignorant” man.

Browder listed the crimes and murders that Putin has committed, and ended by a broadside at Carlson demanding that they be reprimanded. Vladimir Putin is a man who should keep his mouth shut.

After that unhinged rant, Camerota brought up an unsubstantiated allegation Democrat Congressman Tom Malinowski made blaming Carlson for his constituents calling his office to request that the United States side with Russia.

I was just hearing from one of the lawmakers, Democratic lawmaker in New Jersey who was saying that his constituents are now calling him because they listen to the Fox channel or to some of these conservatives and they’re saying yeah, what’s the big deal why aren’t we siding with Russia? So it’s not–I mean–whatever’s happening, it’s taking, it’s starting to spread, it’s taking root.

Browder said that he believes those who support Ukraine are majority, and it is a “bipartisan (…)policy to be with Ukraine.” He said that “there is no groundswell of support for Vladimir Putin within the United States,” and that it’s a red herring to suggest otherwise.

CNN has a habit of slandering conservatives for having “a soft spot” for Putin. NewsBusters isn’t taking a position on Ukraine, but it is clear that Tucker Carlson, a conservative who believes we shouldn’t be involved in any conflict in foreign countries is not holding a “soft spot” for Putin.

However, these nuances won’t work with Alison Camerota (or the other leftists on CNN).

ALISYN CAMEROTA – One of Fox’s primetime hosts, who doesn’t understand the differences between Vladimir Putin’s leader and that in Ukraine, can’t tell the difference. He doesn’t even see the distinction between an autocracy or a young democracy. Here’s what they said on Friday.

TUCKER CARLSON:  Vladimir Putin is our most dangerous enemy, they scream.

[Cuts back to live]

CAMEROTA: Bill. Why do so many Republicans in America have a soft spot to Putin?

BILL BROWDER: Bill Browner (Global Magnitsky Justice Campaign). I don’t think Republicans can be compared to Tucker Carlson. It’s true that there are lots of Republicans who I’ve had the pleasure of working with in both Congress and the House of Representatives, that are equally as strong on Russia. Tucker Carlson stated that Tucker Carlson is an inept man and does not understand the activities of Putin. Putin is someone I know from firsthand. Putin is a murderer. He chased me around the globe trying to kill my, Sergei Magnitsky, my lawyer was killed, and Boris Nemtsov, the most prominent Russian opposition politician, was killed. He poisoned Alexei Navalny. When it comes to Vladimir Putin, Tucker Carlson needs to keep his mouth closed.

CAMEROTA: No, it wasn’t Tucker. Also, it’s obvious that former President Trump was fond of Putin. And I was just hearing from one of the lawmakers, Democratic lawmaker in New Jersey who was saying that his constituents are now calling him because they listen to the Fox channel or to some of these conservatives and they’re saying yeah, what’s the big deal why aren’t we siding with Russia? So it’s not–I mean–whatever’s happening, it’s taking, it’s starting to spread, it’s taking root.

BROWDER (English): It is, but it’s not. I mean it’s being advertised on by a small group of people who don’t know what they are talking about. However, the U.S. Policy — which is a bipartisan strategy — is that it stands with Ukraine. This has not changed. The United States does not have a strong support base for Vladimir Putin. I think that that’s — I think that is a red herring. What’s going on right now with Russia is completely — is completely outrageous. That is what I see.

CAMEROTA: Anti-democratic. Bill Broward, thank you it’s really great to get your personal perspective on all of this. Thank you for your patience.

BROWDER: We are grateful.
