As the saying goes, “Be careful what you woke for.”
Ontario, Canada’s Western University recently aimed to honor the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia.
This image was uploaded by the Administration to its Instagram account. You are awake broke.
Western clearly believed that the only thing that would make LGBT love more beautiful was Islam’s lifting up.
The school might’ve considered the Muslim view of homosexuality — as noted by the BBC, “Some Islamic states impose the death penalty on people caught taking part in homosexual acts.”
But it appears the university just threw at the wall everything leftwing ideology says they’re supposed to support.
Hence, the promo featured an interracial lesbian couple kissing — while wearing hijabs.

One incensed Instagram critic commented, “Shame on you, Western, for such an insulting mockery post to my religion.”
Other words used in aghast: “inappropriate” and “disrespectful.”
But Western wasn’t backing down. It was a long time before it became a reality.

In response, school officials initially appeared to stand behind the poster, noting they understood “how complex and intersectional this topic is” and that the “imagery may be upsetting to some Muslims.” But on Wednesday, a Western official who oversees equity, diversity and inclusion issued a statement noting the image had been removed.
Opiyo Oloya — the college’s associate vice president of equity, diversity and inclusion — hailed an “opportunity”:
“We believe this presents an opportunity for genuine, thoughtful discussion about how we can best support members of the Queer Muslim community, and those from all faiths and backgrounds within the 2SLGBTQ+ community.”
The failure to draw the cartoon was the only thing that made it possible.
“In order to promote that discussion, we have removed the image from the post to not distract from these important conversations.”
It remains unclear how many Queer Muslims showed up to talk, but the situation also saw a Change.org petition. They demanded that the university drop the Muslim female make-up.
Part:
The portrayal is completely disrespectful and insensitive to Muslims. Many members of the Muslim community voiced concerns about the issue (including many women who wear hijab). Western University ignores their concerns and turns off the comments section, writing:
“This post was not religious or theological in content and was internally vetted by our cross-campus EDID group which has Muslim representation. While we understand the images might upset some Muslims, it is also something that our Queer Muslim community does not often get to see. This post will remain live on our channel. As the conversations in the comments are no longer about recognizing 2SLGBTQ+ identity, we have turned off comments to avoid any further impacts on the community.”
As one can see, this response makes a poor attempt to gaslight individuals into believing that nothing about the post was meant to be religious and that they ‘understand’ that the imagery may be upsetting to ‘some’ Muslims.
According to the petition, it is considered fetishistic for lesbians to be lip-smacking in Islamic clothing.
Many Muslim women are uncomfortable with the imagery, which depicts the Hijab as a cover for women who engage in sexual activity. Western University is contributing to sexualization and fetishization. You would have deleted the images from that post if you understood this. It was then easy to dismiss the Muslim community’s concern. Indeed if only ‘some’ Muslims found it upsetting, Western University would have left the comment section as is. But it was obvious that the purpose of this comment section was to silence members of the community.
Conclusion:
[T]he depiction of the Hijab in such a context is disrespectful, tokenizing, and attempting to redefine elements of the Hijab by sexualizing and fetishizing an element of Islamic Religion that is supposed to desexualize and encapsulate modesty. This is something that the Muslim community must not permit. [colonialist]It is a mindset that asks if it’s okay to feel upset. Western University’s response was to engage in ethnocentrism. It took an element that is dear to them and made it a platform to share what they believe to be worthy. Irrespective the Muslim community’s concerns. … [T]His petition asks Western University to remove the position, apologize and make improvements to ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
At the time of writing, 36.895 people have already signed the petition.
Identity politics has become a fad. However, not all types of phobic are bad. -It is an enemy. Western University tried to follow the woke playbook to a T; but in the end, they got an F. From select nasty naysayers — as a result of both posting the image and taking it down — they probably even got an F U.
Indeed, at the intersection of intersectionality, sometimes there’s a fender bender.
