Botched Car Bombing in Moscow Could Have Major Implications in Ukraine – Opinion

A car bomb went off in Moscow on Saturday night, killing Darya Dugina, the daughter of Alexander Dugin. Multiple news outlets shared video of the event, showing the car flames and Dugin looking distraught as he stands across the street.

This is significant because Dugin is considered a major player in pushing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, serving as a sort of new-world spiritual guide to Vladimir Putin. He’s been referred to as “Putin’s brain” in the past.

Dugin was the target of the car bombing, but Dugin’s daughter ended up being the one who got hurt. She was actually driving his Toyota Land Cruiser. This leaves many options, none of which are very good.

This could be a more isolated act by a subset of Russian mob culture. Dugin is obviously involved in a lot of shady stuff, and it wouldn’t be surprising at all if internal forces tried to take him out.

Other, more likely possibilities are that the attack was orchestrated by someone supporting the Ukrainians. If there is any evidence provided of that, it’s going to be a major flashpoint that could cause a severe escalation in the war currently going on in Eastern Europe. Given Dugin’s role in that war, it would make sense that he would be a target.

This could mean that although this may have been a small-scale event, the Russian government uses it to justify its aggression of Ukraine. No matter what the facts actually say here or who is actually behind the bombing, that’s probably exactly what will happen.
