In an interview that spanned nearly the duration of the timeslot (minus the commercials), CNN Prime Time host Chris “Fredo” Cuomo and HBO’s Bill Maher had a conversation that covered everything from former President Trump, to “wokeness,” to Dave Chappelle. One of their more important topics was the back and forth about Critical Race Theory. There, Maher schooled Cuomo on how the racist ideology was applied in classrooms: separating students based on race and the whites called “oppressors.”
Fredo attacked parents against CRT after returning from a commercial and claimed that their children were too stupid to grasp the meaning of the acronym.
It can be explained as ignorance about CRT.This is my problem, I’d like to hear yours. Everyone knows that CRT is a meaningless acronym. They don’t understand what this acronym means.. You won’t find it anywhere.
“The problem is: You still have the right to vote. In elections, they feel overwhelmed by the facts.,” he added.
But Maher wasn’t having it and immediately called Fredo out. “And it’s not a phantom either. That there’s something going on in the schools that never went on before,” he noted, describing how he’s read numerous “accounts from parents, from educators” about what was going on in schools across the country.
After noting that no one was against teaching an honest assessment of the Civil War and slavery, Maher argued, “That’s different than teaching that racism is the essence of America. That’s what people get upset about, or involving children who are probably not old enough or sophisticated enough to understand this very complicated issue with a very complicated history.”
Maher believed that CRT was being forced upon children. This essentially destroyed their innocence and made them believe they, or their classmates were racist. “Kids are taught and sometimes separated into groups, oppressor and oppressed. What does that mean to a child? Would they gravitate toward that if you hadn’t told them,” he asked.
Maher deduced that the problem with the far-left was that they’re “afraid” to admit that things had gotten better since the Civil Rights Movement (Click “expand”):
You’re taking away something that is improving, America’s race relations. And we, I believe everyone realizes and everyone right-thinking that there are still many things to do. There are still remedial efforts to be made. Racism exists in America.
However, one evening I was thinking about progressophobia. It is the term Stephen Pinker used to describe a fear that progressives have of accepting progress. It’s not two thoughts at once. We can all acknowledge our great achievements in addressing social problems. There is much more to do. Mission accomplished is not what we mean. Instead, we are urging you to live in the current year.
If you aren’t realistic about the problem, it’s impossible to come up with solutions. You see, gay marriage wasn’t legalized in America until about 10-20 years ago. It was up to 35 times on the ballot. It’s now the law and everyone is for it.
Ignoring how he had just claimed CRT wasn’t “really…taught anywhere,” Fredo pushed back, asserting CRT was just teaching kids the truth and how to spot systemic racism. To which Maher denounced that as “nuts” (Click “expand”):
CUOMO: And the pushback becomes, “well, it’s just the truth, we’re just telling them the truth, is that racism continues, it’s systemic, it’s in everything around us, but you have to be taught where it is everywhere because that’s how we remedy it. And otherwise you’re just hiding from the truth.”
MAHER: That’s nuts. That’s absurd. This is just virtue signaling.
CUOMO: Here’s the issue. This is what you do all the times. Why don’t you worry that HBO, or any other company that owns HBO, or even your audience, will come and say, Maher has said too much. He’s got to go. Why aren’t you afraid of that?
MAHER: [Laughter]Every week they do it. It’s taped every Friday.
This all essentially tied into their earlier conversation about “wokeness,” where Maher chastised the Democratic Party for going crazy:
To the Democratic Party, I repeat this. You have turned into the party without common sense, which is why you’re so toxic. People see it on their newsfeeds. I mean, you were saying to me in the break, people mostly go on with their lives, they do, but they see things on their phone or their Facebook page, people pass things around it’s a constant drip, drip, drip of, “oh, these people are nuts.”
Chris Cuomo’s lies about Critical Race Theory not being applied in schools was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Amazon and UPS. This link will take you to their contact information so that you can inform them about the bias news they finance.

CHRIS CUOMO: A quick question. Woke. People will respond to it by saying, “No, Woke is inclusive and aware.” Disagree?
BILL MAHER : Bill, well, woke. I can’t even remember the date the term was created, but I have heard that the AOC states only elderly people are using it. You gave it to me, about five years back. Sorry, we did not get the memo. We realized that this is an extremely high school fashion thing and we won’t be using it any more. On Wednesdays, we all wear pink.
You can use whatever terms you like, but I don’t mind. This one is easy for me. In its most basic sense, this is a positive thing. There’s a reason that the term Wike has become synonymous with going too far, doing things that make no sense.
To the Democratic Party, I repeat this. Because you have turned out to be the party with no common sense, you are toxic. People see it on their newsfeeds. I mean, you were saying to me in the break, people mostly go on with their lives, they do, but they see things on their phone or their Facebook page, people pass things around and it’s a constant drip, drip, drip of, “oh, these people are nuts.”

CUOMO: It was about schools. And boy did it resonate in Virginia. Democrats couldn’t have predicted that. It could be explained as ignorance about CRT. Let me know your thoughts. Nobody knows what CRT stands for. They have no idea what this acronym means. They don’t know where to find it.
MAHER: You’re not even saying the three words it stands for and people are already going, “CRT?”
CUOMO: “I don’t like it, I don’t want it.”
MAHER: Well, let’s say what those words are.
CUOMO: Critical Race Theory.
MAHER: Yeah.
CUOMO. And people from the left will laugh at the ignorance. “They’re too stupid to know.” Here’s the problem. You still have the right to vote. Furthermore, they often feel overwhelmed by facts in elections. This is not a new phenomenon. People vote on feel.
MAHER: This isn’t a ghost. There is something that’s going on at the schools that hasn’t happened before. I don’t work in schools and I have never had any contact with kids. However, I am able to understand the issue from reading accounts of parents, educators and people from all walks of life — which is across the country.
This is what we are always in, regardless of whether you’re using Critical Race Theory or not. You can say this on MSNBC and people will think it’s great because MSNBC finally teaches a truthful history of racism within the country. I’m not against that.
It’s something that I don’t support. You know what, my American history education is very vivid. They taught us about the Civil War. They mentioned racism and we were able to understand slavery and Lincoln. It wasn’t that they really got into it. Gone with the Wind goes into it. You could feel the sensation but not physically. We’re now doing it and that I believe is a positive thing. People should be able to see that.
It’s not the same as teaching people that America is a nation of racists. This is what causes people to be upset.
CUOMO: So, it’s that you have families – we saw this resonate in Virginia. And I have people on all the time who reject this premise – but we just saw it play out so it must be real to a lot of people – which is you want to make white kids feel badly about what happened before them and that their lives should be a function of making up for it. That’s not what I want to do with my child.
MAHER: Yes. They are. Children are often taught, and then sometimes divided into oppressors and oppressed groups. What does it mean for kids to know these terms? What would make them gravitate towards that type of thing if they weren’t taught?
You’re taking away something that is improving, America’s race relations. And we, I believe everyone realizes and everyone right-thinks that there are still many things to do.
Yet, there’s still much to do. Mission accomplished is not what we mean. Instead, we are urging you to live in the current year.
Without being realistic about the issue, you can’t find good solutions. You see, gay marriage wasn’t legalized in America until about 10-20 years ago. It was up to 35 times on the ballot. No one opposes it now that it is the law of land. As a child, New Jersey was not in the south. It was predominantly a white state. The vast majority of Americans desire to live in an area with a diverse racial makeup. This is an amazing development in just my lifetime.
We are not there yet, but we can acknowledge the progress we have made and recognize where we stand right now.
CUOMO. Now here is the problem.
CUOMO (That’s Tuesday)
MAHER: Exactly. Friday night, on Saturday some people who haven’t seen the show yet say to me, “how did the show go?” I always say, “if I haven’t been canceled today, it went fantastic, that it was a giant success.”
CUOMO: You don’t have to change.
MAHER: No. Every week, they come to me for some reason, from both sides. I find this amazing.
CUOMO (Cooperation of the Oppressed): Perhaps that is what saves your life, knowing that both sides are after you.
MAHER: That’s quite new. It’s not that I have changed. My politics are the same. An old-school liberal, I am. They were discussing the issue of race. They made changes, not me. It was me who was old. We need to move toward a society that is color-blind and doesn’t discriminate against any race. This is the traditional way of looking at it. This is still a good way of looking at things. That’s how we win. When it doesn’t matter what your race is; the quality of your character, not the color of your skin. It’s not wake-ism. Woke-ism means we must see it all the time. That’s different, I don’t know if that make is better.
But I’m – for the first time, when I’m on the road now playing to very often to a politically mixed audience. This has never been done before. This doesn’t seem to be a common occurrence in America.
