Biden Speaks on Suspending Gas Tax but Even CNN Busts His Bad Idea – Opinion

Joe Biden called for Congress to temporarily suspend the federal gasoline tax from September through December, as well as calling on other states to do similar to stop their gas taxes. The current federal gas tax amounts to 18c for gasoline and 24c for diesel.

He claimed the idea that he was restricting domestic oil production was “nonsense.”

He has attacked and restricted the industry since his inception, and gas prices are on the rise since then, well before Putin invaded Ukraine. He blames Putin, as he has done again in his comments.

While he was speaking, he showed pictures of Ukraine on his screen and later pictures of electric vehicles. This was amazing. This was a sales pitch, and they knew it would hurt them. His actions were similar to throwing Ukraine into the fire by not supporting the gas-tax holiday.

But, even now, with all the harm that his policies have caused, Biden still won’t give up on phasing out fossil fuels. While companies can increase their supplies in the short term, it is not the best option for the medium or long term. We must still transition from fossil-fuels.

Biden claimed that he was “doing his part.”

It is true that he does his part in making things worse.

But it’s not clear that he even has all the Democrats in Congress on board with this idea of pausing the gas tax.

It could actually make matters worse, as it will increase demand but not supply.

Biden has been in political office since the invention of the wheel, but he doesn’t seem to understand that. He hasn’t even absorbed that his former boss Barack Obama called it a gimmick back in 2008.

“For us to suggest 30 cents a day for three months is real relief, that that’s a real energy policy, means that we are not tackling the problem that has to be tackled,” Obama said.

Even CNN wasn’t going for it. Matt Egan understands that this could boost demand, but is concerned that it might make inflation worse. It polls well, but it doesn’t mean it’s good to do, Egan said.

Journalist Jean Chatzky called it “optics” and explained it wasn’t worth much, if anything.

However, if it does well in polls, Biden believes it will benefit him even though the final result may be bad for Americans or make things worse.

Biden, while urging oil companies to grow their production and still pledging to eliminate fossil fuels completely, has done so again in his speech. He again touted releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve which hasn’t done anything to slow rising prices. Chevron’s CEO pointed out how bad this mixed message and constant attack on them was to stable production. Biden also pointed out the importance of refineries as a part of this problem. Industry also pointed out that the industry is at peak capacity for refineries already. They would have more capacity, but nearly half the capacity has been taken off-line due to facilities that convert to renewable energy. So who’s responsible for that? Biden, Democrats and others are staring at you.
