It was obvious that the effort by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and the other members of Congress who got “arrested” at a protest outside the Supreme Court was a stunt for attention. They were mocked by the media for pretending that they were being held in handcuffs. However, all that was given to them was a ticket, and an enjoyable experience. Some even took selfies–not exactly the experience you would normally have to go through when arrested.
Now, we’re finding out just how much of a stunt it was.
NEW: AOC coordinated AOC’s act outside of Supreme Court yesterday with progressive dark money groups that asked her and her fellow colleagues to submit themselves for arrest before the Supreme Court.”https://t.co/KoDGoJVjRr

Turns out that getting arrested was the whole point, and a dark money group — which has received in the past over one million a year from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations — was behind the effort. AOC said on Instagram that the Center for Popular Democracy Action Fund asked her and the other members to “submit themselves for arrest in front of the Supreme Court.” But despite admitting that, AOC insisted that it wasn’t a “publicity stunt.”
The arrest was even filmed by a film crew.
Jeremy Slevin (Omar spokesman) tweeted 30 minutes prior to lawmakers hitting the streets that a dark-money group film crew would be present live stream the event.
“Members of Congress, including [Omar] will be participating in a civil disobedience at the Supreme Court, potentially including arrests, shortly,” Slevin tweeted before the lawmakers began illegally obstructing the street outside the Supreme Court. “@CPDAction is live streaming it. Follow along!”
Some other members of Congress were also arrested along with them, but they belonged to the CPD.
“Moments ago, leaders from CPD Action network organizations, members of Congress & more participated in a powerful civil disobedience demonstration & got arrested to protect our RIGHT to SAFE & LEGAL abortions,” the dark money group posted on Facebook Tuesday afternoon.
“This is a clear message to SCOTUS and lawmakers that #WeWontBackDown until ALL pregnancy-abled people are treated as full human beings with the autonomy to make decisions about OUR OWN bodies,” the group added.
In a Facebook post they linked their fundraising page so that the stunt could be funded.
According to a spokesperson for Capitol Police, no one was arrested at the Supreme Court outside on Tuesday.
“As is standard for peaceful, planned protests, those who were arrested were ticketed and released on site,” the spokesperson said. “Nobody was handcuffed, as is standard for a noncustodial arrest. Everyone was arrested for Crowding, Obstructing, or Incommoding (DC Code § 22–1307). They have up to 15 days to pay a $50 fine or they can have a hearing.”
AOC also used it to raise funds.
AOC, who has already used her arrest to solicit funds for her congressional campaign, also insisted her planned arrest was “very different than a ‘publicity stunt.’”

Talk about drama queen.
AOC acting as if she were being taken away to Gitmo only makes the fact that AOC was actually arrested more shameful. A dark money group then tells them to violate the law. Then they raise money from it. We pay for the Capitol Police, so we’re funding them being used this way to pull off this stunt. Democrats can then try to use it to raise money and act like they’re doing something for their base.
They have achieved nothing in terms of the right to abortion. Nothing. But shhh, don’t tell the base that; they might then understand how empty these characters are.
