Abusing MLK Day: ‘The View’ Falsely Claims Teaching His Legacy Now Outlawed

With Monday being Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, ABC’s The ViewHe was at the forefront in using his legacy to promote hatred and division. This is exactly what he stood for. Combined, the blowhard co-hosts suggested that America needed “psychotherapy” so we could look back and learn from our history, lied about people having had their right to vote taken away, and lied about legislation against Critical Race Theory banning educating kids about MLK’s great legacy.

It is clear to me that MLK Jr., his legacy, has been under attack. It is a sad fact that his voting rights legacy was under attack. That frustrates me.,” co-host Sunny Hostin falsely asserted.

Hostin claimed in no way that he taught MLK to children. He was outlawed by 20 states.

You know this because, nine states have already passed legislation based on Critical Race Theory, and 20 other states are currently passing legislation based on that type of theory. Children all across the nation won’t be taught about Dr. King’s work by him.He made his entire life work. His life’s work.

Then I consider the fact that voter suppression laws have been passed in 19 states. The 34 states that added 34 laws have adopted 34 to suppress the votes.,” she added. “And so, I’m reminded on a day like today that we have so much more work to do, and I think we’re up to the task, and I hope that voting rights laws will be strengthened.”

Backing up Hostin’s lies about “voter suppression laws,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg angrily declared: “We will return them.

This would warrant their indignation if they had been actually hurt.

Goldberg appeared to claim that no country has made any progress in race relations.

We still have to deal with many of the same attitudes and views that we grew up seeing. We were treated as if we weren’t American citizens by legislators. Like we didn’t matter. As if our education was not important. It was not important to have the right to vote. Here we are. Here we are again with the same kind of lies being told about what our needs are as Americans like we’re not really here.

The result was a complete lack of awareness of the political ideology that governed the cast. “If I vote for someone that isn’t you, then you don’t have any right to interfere with my decision.,” Goldberg proclaimed. “It is against the law for citizens to stop one another’s thinking. You have only the right to handle your own business.”

Invoking a loose notion of history, she added: “And we fought you before many times and we’ll fight you again.” But it was co-host Joy Behar who suggested that America needed to look back at its history as a form of mass “psychotherapy.”

“First, I want to say, learn your history, damn it! Know your past. Psychotherapy is for people who are in distress in their life. and they go back to learn the history of their childhood, which informs the present,” she screeched.

In reality, the Civil War was won by the Democrats to protect their slaves. They also rejected the desegregation and fought against civil rights.

JOY BEHAR: Well, you know, Whoopi, on a day like this, you try to think to yourself, “well, what is important to remember? And what do we want to say to people who are watching us?”

Let me start by saying, “Learn your history!” Know your past. As we discussed, people who are in difficulty in their lives go to psychotherapy. They learn their past and it informs their present. This is the same concept behind the learning of American and global history.

All over the globe, racism is a problem for African Americans. Not only is it our country’s problem, but the original sin of slavery was also a part of our country. This is number 1.

One other thing, I want to add, is that there are so many good people out there already. I would suggest, if somebody speaks in a racially charged manner, you confront them. Do not just sit and watch. Do not laugh at racist jokes. Say, “Look, it’s not funny. You don’t like this. If you’re going to be a racist about it, get out of my house.”

These are issues that can be tackled head-on, so I think there are solutions. It would also be something that schools must do. So, those are my opinions.

SUNNY HOTIN: It’s true, my father always reminds me, particularly on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, that I am the one in his family who has full civil rights. I am the first in my family to enjoy full civil rights. And I am 53. This is my entire life. This is our life.

It is clear to me that MLK Jr., his legacy, has been under attack. I am saddened by his legacy regarding voting rights. That frustrates me.

You know this because 9 states have adopted Critical Race Theory legislation. 20 states across the nation are also passing such legislation. There are many children in America who won’t be able to learn more about Dr. King. The work that he dedicated his entire life to. His life’s work. Then I consider the fact that voter suppression laws have been passed in 19 states. These 34 other states have also passed voter suppression laws.

On a day such as today, I am reminded that there is so much more to be done. I believe we are up to it, and I pray that the voting rights laws get strengthened. While I do hope for the best, I am sad that we have remained where we are.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG (OK) It is important to remember, as I do with Martin Luther King Jr. It never ends. It’s ongoing.

These voting rights, which we keep talking about constantly, will be returned. It is your right as a citizen of the United States to vote. We will keep fighting for it. It is in the Constitution.

Yes, the filibuster was created to stop progress. You need to be vigilant. It’s not only today, but all day long in small ways. This is exhausting, because it seems like we are moving on from this.

We still have to deal with many of the same attitudes as we grew up seeing. Our legislators looked at us as though we were not American citizens. Like we didn’t matter. As if our education was not important. It was not important to have the right to vote. Here we are. Here we are again with the same kind of lies being told about what our needs are as Americans like we’re not really here.

Yes, indeed. We are there. And we’re going to fight. We won’t stop fighting. As an American citizen you have no right to interfere with my ability to vote for anyone other than me. I don’t have to be stopped from my dreams of a better America. You do not have this right.

We have fought you many times before and will continue to fight you. Because America is America. We won’t tolerate this. It’s not from other countries. You cannot stop anyone. Our citizens don’t have the right stop others from thinking. Only you have the right to manage your business.

This is what I associate with Dr. King. Do your best to manage your own affairs and remember that you are ultimately responsible for the actions you take.
