My colleague Alex Parker reported an interesting comment that National Economic Director Brian Deese made to CNN’s Victor Blackwell on Thursday.
Blackwell asked “What do you say to those families that say, ‘Listen, we can’t afford to pay $4.85 a gallon for months, if not years?’”
Deese’s response? “This is about the future of the liberal world order and we have to stand firm.”
It’s not surprising that this comment received a lot of responses on social media.
Biden’s earlier comment on the day was referenced in this exchange. Biden keeps saying that the gas prices are due to “Putin’s Price Hike” and the war in Ukraine. On Thursday, he was asked how long did he expect Americans to pay for that price hike and his response was, “As long as it takes.” So shut up, peasants, and take it! Now, Americans are a kind and generous people, but Biden seems to think there’s an open spigot that he can just pour money into for Ukraine, without any end in sight and without any real check as to where it’s going once it goes out the door, and that we should all just be happy as clams about it. As my colleague Brandon Morse noted, especially when we’re being crushed by Joe Biden’s policies and Americans don’t seem to be the priority for Joe Biden, that’s not going to fly.
However, it isn’t just Deese making a random comment about the “liberal world order” either. Biden has used the term, plus the term “new world order,” before, most recently in March when I reported how he talked about how the pandemic had given them “significant opportunities” to change things for the “new world order” that was coming.

“As one…of the top military people said to me in a secure meeting the other day, 60 million people died between 1900 and 1946…Since then, we’ve established a liberal world order and that hadn’t happened in a long while. Although many died, there was not much chaos. And now’s the time when things are shifting…there going to be a new world order out there and we’ve got to lead it. And we’ve got to unite the rest of the free world in doing it.”
So if we put those things together, the pandemic and high gas prices are all serving the “liberal world order” too.
It’s not a new thing. Joe Biden is a long-standing supporter of the liberal order.
Here’s Joe Biden in 2017, talking about how President Donald Trump is not acting in accord with the “liberal world order.” Biden, the guy who was just on foreign soil attacking our Supreme Court, railed against Trump for “breaking down of the norms” of that order.

Joe actually said it at World Economic Forum.
Who are these people who demonize and lie about the Supreme Court and call for the removal of the Electoral College, the filibuster and an expansion of the Court? That’s the Democrats doing that now, Joe. The Republicans are not the ones doing it. So this isn’t about maintaining those norms or the norms of our Consitution — you know the thing Biden and Democratic lawmakers swore allegiance to — because if it was they wouldn’t be trying to change all those norms now — when they feel like those norms aren’t helping their power. It’s always and only about maintaining their control on power.
They’re supposed to be about serving our country and our Constitution, not a “world order.” Priority should always be the Constitution, America, and American interests. If you are subordinating American interests — as indeed Deese and Biden were both essentially admitting — there’s a big problem.
It’s not just a “let them eat cake” moment, it’s a warning of where they intend to take us in the future and it’s not good.
