Almost three months since Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husbAnd Paul was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Napa County California, ABC’s World News Tonight and CBS Evening NewsI decided that now was the best time to tell the story. Pelosi received three years probation and eight hours of community service. He also had to complete a course about drunk driving.
Paul Pelosi was not sentenced to jail. NBC Nightly NewsThey decided that it would be too risky politically to continue the story. Instead of reporting on Paul Pelosi’s DUI sentence, NBC decided to run a lengthy segment on potentially cancer-causing firefighter gear as well as flooding in Texas.
While ABC & CBS did find time in their broadcasts for news on the drunk driving husband of the woman who’s second in line for the presidency, they only allowed twenty-two and twenty-three seconds on the story respectively.
ABC World News TonightThe following short report was given by anchor David Muir on Paul Pelosi’s fate:
Tonight Nancy Pelosi’s husband pleaded guilty to DUI following his California crash. Paul Pelosi was 82 years old when he crashed into another car in Napa County California. He was sentenced today by the judge to three years probation and five days in prison. Four of his days are creditable to him. He will spend the fifth day doing community service.
Moments later CBS Evening NewsNorah Ol’Donnell, an anchor, gave the following report to ABC’s viewers. She was most likely confused, as were ABC’s, about how they didn’t know that Speaker Pelosi had been arrested for DUI just three months before.
Paul Pelosi (the husband of Nancy Pelosi), pleaded guilty to the DUI charge in California today. The state highway patrol also released video footage of the arrest in May. He will serve one day in court instead of spending more time behind bars. He will keep an interlock ignition device on his vehicle. He’s also been on–will be on probation for three years.
ABC & CBS deserve no credit for reporting on news they should’ve been revealing to their audience all along. This would not be possible if the Republican House Speaker was his spouse.
Liberty Mutual made this continued bias of omission possible. Verizon made ABC’s coverage better late than ever possible, while CBS’s coverage was possible thanks to CarFax. These links link to their information.
