4th Grade Teacher Is First Victim Identified in Uvalde Shooting – Opinion

We’ve been bringing you coverage of the horrific mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Two adults and 18 children have been reported as having died in the most recent reports.

KSAT12 News, San Antonio’s ABC affiliate, has identified Fourth Grade Teacher Eva Mireles as the first victim and shared photos provided by her aunt, Lydia Martinez Delgado. Delgado states Mireles worked as a teacher at Uvalde Consolidated independent School District for 17 years.

Per KSAT:

Mireles’ aunt, Lydia Martinez Delgado, issued the following statement:

“My niece, Eva Mireles, approximately 17 yr teacher for UCISD along with another teacher and 18 children lost her lives to a senseless tragic shooting. I’m furious that these shooting continue, these children are innocent, rifles should not be easily available to all. My hometown is small, with less than 20,000. It was something I had never expected, particularly for my family members. not all the facts have been released yet all we can do is pray hard for our country, state, schools and especially the families of all.”

According to the report, there are additional victims in serious condition. These include a girl aged 10 years old and a woman of 66 years. Other victims are in grave condition.

ABC7 (Los Angeles) reports Mireles “was a mother and wife who loved running and hiking, according to Robb Elementary School’s website.”
