Unreal. Florida has passed a “Parental Rights in Education bill” – and the Disney corporation, which of course has Disney World in Orlando, is livid. The left has, all too predictably, nicknamed the bill the “Don’t Say Gay” legislation.
Disney, by the way, is the only company that makes entertainment for children. The Florida law was created to safeguard children from kindergarten through the third grade.
classroom instruction on “sexual orientation” or “gender identity.”
That is correct. Democrats and the Left are demanding that children between the ages of 5 and 8 receive indoctrination – ah, that would be “classroom instruction” – on, yes, sex and, transgenderism. These children are at an age where most kids have no idea about sexuality of any sort. Parents want to ensure that their children are learning about bees and birds from parents.
However, in these days and ages of woke companies even Uncle Walt has been replaced by Uncle Woke. As noted here at CNBC: “CEO Bob Chapek said he will meet with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney will donate $5 million to organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign, that work to protect LGTBQ+ rights.”
Not woke enough to understand that it is time for China to cease doing business with the United States, which China has also generated headlines at Human Rights Watch.
China: Xinjiang Children are Separated From Their Families
According to HRW, this is:
(New York) – Chinese authorities should immediately release to their families children held in “child welfare” institutions and boarding schools in Xinjiang, Human Rights Watch said today. It is necessary that the government stops seperating Uyghurs and Turkic Muslim kids from their families.
Under China’s “Strike Hard Campaign against Violent Terrorism,” an estimated 1 million Turkic Muslims have been arbitrarily detained in unlawful political education camps in Xinjiang since 2017. Unknown numbers are held in prisons and detention centers.
Numerous Chinese children have been taken in by the Chinese authorities without their parents consent.
“The Chinese government’s forced separation of children is perhaps the cruelest element of its oppression in Xinjiang,” said Sophie Richardson, China director at Human Rights Watch. “Children should be either immediately returned to the custody of relatives in China or allowed to join their parents outside the country.’”
That’s right. The Disney corporation is demanding Florida’s children between the ages of 5 and 8 be instructed on transgenderism and sex at the very same time they are stone cold silent about doing business with a Chinese government that is engaging in the “forced separation of children” and “separating Uyghur and other Turkic Muslim children from their families.” The company is giving money to leftist supporters of woke sex doctrine organizations. Disney has remained silent on the subject of doing business in China with the country that is busy isolating children from their families. It is also silent on making donations to Uyghur Projects Foundation which actively tries to support the Uyghurs.
A minimum of one Disney shareholder has been awakened to see the action that Disney is engaging in. Here’s the headline from Fox Business:
Disney accused by activist shareholder of ‘complicity in China genocide’
Disney was confronted by shareholders at their annual meeting about alleged inconsistencies regarding responding to human right issues
The Fox report says the shareholder was comparing the company’s dealings with China to its “pulling its business away from Russia over human rights abuses.” The same could be said with the difference between its blind eye to the treatment of Uyghur Muslim children but turning on the rights of the parents of Florida’s youngest kids in school.
Over here, a video has been posted from Fox News digital of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis saying to a crowd in front of cameras: “In Florida, our policies got to be based on the best interest of Florida citizens, not on the musing of woke corporations.”
The Governor said:
“And when you have companies that have made a fortune off being family-friendly and catering to families and young kids, they should understand that parents of young kids do not want this injected into their kids’ kindergarten classroom,” he warned. “They do not want their first-graders to go and be told that they can choose an opposite gender. It is unacceptable for such children. So if you’re family-friendly, understand that parents who are actually raising families want to have their rights respected.’
He then addressed Disney, saying, “And I also think that you have companies like a Disney that are going to say and criticize parents” rights; they’re going to criticize the fact that we don’t want transgenderism in kindergarten and first-grade classrooms. If that’s the hill that they’re going to die on, then how do they possibly explain lining their pockets with their relationship from the Communist Party of China? Because that’s what they do and they make a fortune; they don’t say a word about the really brutal practices that you see over there at the hands of the CCP. And so in Florida, our policy’s got to be based on the best interest of Florida citizens, not on the musing of woke corporations.
Amazingly, Disney CEO Bob Chapek dug an even deeper hole for Disney by issuing a statement apologizing to Disney’s LGBTQ+ employees for not opposing the Parental Rights bill earlier. Incredibly, in his statement Chapek said: “It is clear that this is not just an issue about a bill in Florida, but instead yet another challenge to basic human rights.”
Chapek did not offer any apology to Uyghur Muslims or their children. The offended Disney workers did not apologize for taking money from oppressors Uyghur Muslims, their children and their families.
Disney and its employees are ostentatiously standing up for indoctrinating young Florida children on sex over the objection of their parents – but falling silent on doing business with a Chinese government that goes out of its way to separate children from parents. They make a lot of money.
Imagine Walt Disney fuming with his co-workers.
Hypocrisy doesn’t look great.
