Wikipedia is asking its users to weigh in on the platform’s article discussing “Mass killings under Communist regimes.”
This article discusses the mass murders committed by communist regimes in the 20th Century, such as the Soviet Union and China.
There are two warnings on the article. The first asks you to comment on possible removal of the article. The second warns that your article might be untrue or biased.
“This article is being considered for deletion in accordance with Wikipedia’s deletion policy,” the first warning reads. “Please share your thoughts on the matter at this article’s deletion discussion page.
Edit the article as you wish, but don’t remove the notice before it is over. For more information, read the guide to deletion.”
According to Wikipedia’s deletion policy, users are encouraged to “explain their opinion” on whether the article should be deleted.
A second warning said the article has “multiple issues.”
Wikipedia said the “neutrality of the article is disputed” and that the “verifiability of the claims made in this article is disputed.”
Twitter was quick to condemn the Online Encyclopedia for considering the deletion of an article that revealed the true horrors perpetrated by communist governments.
“Go to hell, @Wikipedia,” Elliott Hamilton, an attorney and conservative social media commentator tweetedInclude a screenshot showing the warnings.
“If @Wikipedia gets away with this, there will surely be attempts to delete pages involving the Armenian genocide, the Holocaust, and many other mass atrocities,” he added. “This slippery slope cannot stand.”
“@Wikipedia this ends my donation to you,” another user tweeted.
