Why We’d Be Thankful if Thanksgiving Was the Only Thursday on Which the NFL Played – Opinion

The sports desk is located under decks on the Good Pirate Ship RedState. We adhere to certain principles. The last regular-season game should be college football rivalry games. We must ban all those involved in maintaining NASCAR’s stage racing format and chase format. Any sports franchise wishing to move to another city should be required to pay the expansion fee for a replacement team and 100% of the cost for a new stadium or arena in the city they’re leaving. The NFL shouldn’t play on Thursdays other than Thanksgiving.

Turkey Day is the right time to play football. Thanksgiving is fall’s last hurrah; although a few weeks are remaining before winter’s official start, by the time the fourth Thursday in November runs its course it is hunker-down-and-break-out-the-thermals time if this has not yet already happened. Lambeau Field’s frozen tundra is starting to freeze. With the same passion that it smashes tables at Highmark Stadium, the Bills Mafia has begun to remove triple layers of clothing. Each team, east and north of Mason Dixon Lines, wishes the Chargers played in San Diego.

It is correct, then, that celebration of the autumn wind‘s preferred sport takes place on Thanksgiving. Not with swords and dragons, but with double-edged price rises and fiery blasts from the media and government enablers, winter is upon us. This is why we must celebrate as much as possible in the precious time we have. And football, its failed attempts at wokeness and all, is woven into America’s celebration of itself and its accomplishments.

Where football doesn’t belong is every Thursday. Although the Sunday game could be modified to select the best matchup, Monday night football is still a popular game. However, the NFL seems to have made it clear that the primary goal of its Thursday matchups is finding the two most beloved teams. This year we’ve seen such scintillating jousts as the Washington Team With No Name against the New York Giants and the Jets versus the Falcons. Riveting.

Let’s have a professional football game played on Thursday be something special again. All Thursday night football games, except for Thanksgiving, should be banned. These games will be missed by no one. They are irreplaceable.
