You are virtually bulletproof if you’re a leftwing media personality. You can tolerate things that could get Republicans fired within a blink of an eye as long as you are speaking from a loyal Democrat. Whoopi Goldberg is arguably the most frequent beneficiary of this reality.
The View co-host on ABC for many years has been involved. You’ll probably remember her defense of Roman Polanski back in 2009 where she asserted that his alleged sexual assault of a woman wasn’t “rape, rape.”
But while that’s just one example, Goldberg, ever the enterprising type, has added another to the list. Social media is exploding with news that the actress and commentator, during an ill-informed discussion about the book “Maus” being removed from a Tennessee school district’s curriculum, launched into a rant about how the Holocaust “wasn’t about racism” but was “white people doing it to white people.”
Here’s what that looked like.
The View panel issues Whoopi with a series of questions after She says, “The Holocaust isn’t about Race.” No. This is not about race.”
Joy Behar said, “Well, they considered Jews to be a different race.”But it is about white supremacy. Ana Navarro says it’s all about going after Jews, Gypsies. pic.twitter.com/GZwZSi2qXi

Let’s take a look at Whoopi’s second video on the Holocaust. She says, “Well this is white people doing that to white people.” Now, y’all get together and fight. pic.twitter.com/YfSgieEN5s

This type of racism is disgusting. This kind of racialism is also historically ignorant. Nazis saw Jews as an unworthy race. It was not just “white people doing it to white people,” nor would that be relevant anyway. Genocide is genocide, and it’s objectively evil.
Goldberg’s actions are a repetition of a common trope among the awake, which is to claim that racism or other forms of prejudice can be somehow reduced if they don’t point at particular, preferred minorities.
An intersectional argument states that Jews, being white, are more successful than other people because of “white supremacy.” Anti-Semitism by non-white supremacists doesn’t constitute bigotry, since racism is “animus plus strength” and Jews have power because of their whiteness.

Let’s also note that this gross commentary came about while Goldberg and her cohorts were trying to completely distort the facts around “Maus” being removed from a Tennessee middle-school reading list. In no way was the school district trying to remove Holocaust education from their schools. All they were doing was looking for a more age-appropriate book that didn’t contain, nudity, profanity, and suicide in it.
Students should be taught all details about the Holocaust. However, it is acceptable for parents to delay exposing their children, gradually introducing more adult themes to them as they grow older. This commonsense approach by a local schoolboard turned into an all-out national panic.
Why? Because everything must be blamed on “white supremacy,” and that was the undergirding for Goldberg’s ridiculous remarks. Just happened to speak the silent part that so many anti-Semites believe.
There will not be any future punishment. Goldberg may apologize, but she’ll keep her job and her unearned sense of moral superiority. Disney, who owns ABC, treated Gina Carano (formerly of The Mandalorian) in an entirely different way. Carano, who made a somewhat insensitive Holocaust comparison at the worst, got booted and weeks of media reprisals. Yet, Goldberg, who has done something objectively far worse, likely won’t even get a slap on the wrist.
In the end, the left doesn’t actually care about antisemitism. If they believe it will help them politically, they only pretend to care. They actually celebrate their anti-Semites. There are no consequences for such, and there won’t be any for Goldberg either.
