When Liberal Media Narratives Blow Up

Today it’s Kyle Rittenhouse. It was Nicholas Sandmann, a young man, not long ago. It was, however, the Trump-Russia collusion enterprise for about four years. These three stories have one thing in common. It would also be a fact that liberal media has fabricated a false narrative.

Let’s start with the current case of the 18-year old Rittenhouse.  The case began with the shooting by police in Kenosha (Wisconsin) of Jacob Blake, a black male. This incident occurred just days after riots in the United States following the murder of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis. Blake was shot, triggering a riot that erupted in Kenosha. The media quickly stirred things up.

One classic example is the reporting on The Washington Post, which said this, as reported by Fox News: “Blake, who witnesses said had been trying to break up an argument between two women, was unarmed and shot as he walked back toward his vehicle.”

What was the problem? Blake actually had a knife and was actually armed. When he started making violent attacks on a police officer while standing arm-length away, Blake was killed. As cited in, the riot that broke out after his shooting in Kenosha was over. The New York Post by William A. Jacobson, a clinical professor of law at Cornell Law School and founder of the Legal Insurrection political and legal web site, CNN reporter Omar Jimenez “standing in front of burning buildings in Kenosha with the on-air chyron reading, ‘Fiery but mostly peaceful protests after police shooting.’”

Jacobson continues – rightly – to state this:

The prosecution is doing poorly, as well. While I’m not predicting an outcome, having followed the case carefully, I can say that Rittenhouse has a strong case for self-defense.

One of the deceased, Joseph Rosenbaum, was a clearly violent person who had threatened to kill Rittenhouse, chased him down and went to grab Rittenhouse’s rifle when shot. Anthony Huber (the other victim) was swinging his skateboard at Rittenhouse and beat him when the shots were fired.

Gaige Grosskreutz, who was wounded, admitted under cross-examination that he ran after Rittenhouse and closed the gap (but denied he was “chasing” him) — and that Rittenhouse only fired on him when Grosskreutz lowered his loaded Glock pistol to point directly at Rittenhouse from three feet away.

…With trial evidence inconsistent with the news’ narrative, there could have been a major media mea culpa. The headlines and framing keep the pre-trial narrative alive, even when inconvenient truths are revealed in the articles.

….From the inception of the Blake shooting, to the riots and now to the Rittenhouse trial, media malpractice has framed a Kenosha narrative completely divorced from reality.

Also, it has been proven that the media story of Kyle Rittenhouse’s events in Kenosha on November 17, 2008 is completely false.

We are now back at young Nicholas Sandmann. Recall that Sandmann, in Washington with his Covington, Kentucky Catholic High School class to participate in the annual March for Life, was simply standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial waiting for the school’s bus to pick them up for the return trip to Kentucky. And oh yes, Sandmann and several of his classmates were wearing the famous red Trump hats proclaiming “Make America Great Again.”

Native American activist Nathan Phillips was captured beating a drum in front of Sandmann’s smiling face. Sandmann was immediately portrayed by the media as an arrogant and racist white child who tried his best to intimidate Phillips. This narrative theme was repeated in The Washington Post and CNN, as well as elsewhere.

In fact, other footage eventually emerged that clearly showed how the incident played out. Phillips, standing there irritated by no one and harassing Sandmann and his classmates, was the one who did it.

However, the media narrative was not true. To the media’s sorrow.  Here’s the eventual headline in The New York Post:

Washington Post agrees to $250M settlement with Nick Sandmann, a Covington teenager

That’s right. The young Sandmann’s family didn’t accept the embarrassing narrative. They started suing media outlets, alleging that Sandmann was racist.

Reported The New York Post:

The Washington PostFriday’s settlement of a $250 Million lawsuit by Nick Sandmann, a student at Covington Catholic high school, was over the botched reporting on his encounter with a Native American elder in 2019.

Sandmann tweeted the news of his victory on his 18th Birthday. It’s unclear how much the newspaper settled for.

“On 2/19/19, I filed $250M defamation lawsuit against Washington Post. Today, I turned 18 & WaPo settled my lawsuit,” he wrote.

….It’s the teen’s second win in a whopping $800 million defamation battle against a number of news outlets including the Washington Post, CNN, ABC, CBS, The GuardianNBC, The Hill and NBC. CNN reached an agreement with Sandmann as part of its $275 million separate claim.

Let’s move on to the Trump Russia collusion story. The media claimed that Donald Trump was an instrument – and an asset – of Russia during the 2016 election. The narrative launched a four year media assault not just on Trump’s successful 2016 campaign but his presidency as well, replete with the Mueller special counsel investigation.

What’s the matter? The indictments slowly rolling out of Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation are revealing that – lo and behold! Trump hater Christopher Steele (ex-British intelligence officer) created the whole Trump-Russia conspiracy story. It was written up in his infamous “Steele Dossier.” And it was paid for by…..Hillary Clinton acolytes.

You can find it over there The Washington Post, the paper’s own media critic, Erik Wemple, surprisingly chastised the media’s coverage in general and his paper’s in particular. He headlined:

Multimedia outlets have more bad news after the indictment of Steele’s dossier source

Said Wemple of the indictment of one Igor Danchenko, “the dossier’s primary intelligence collector” and an analyst at the left wing Brookings think tank:

“The Danchenko indictment doubles as a critique of several media outlets that covered Steele’s reports in 2016 and after its publication by BuzzFeed in January 2017. As discussed in this series, CNN, MSNBC, Mother Jones, the McClatchy newspaper chain and various pundits showered credibility upon the dossier without corroboration — and found other topics to cover when a forceful debunking arrived in December 2019 via a report from Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz.”

What do we have?

The pattern that media use to substitute liberal biases for factual information is clear. Kyle Rittenhouse, Nicholas Sandmann and Trump-Russia collusion might be the central story. You can find many other stories. The one thing that is constant with all of them is the fact that liberal media outlets intentionally – or again purposefully – present the facts in a case with an extreme left bias.

The liberal narrative of Kyle Rittenhouse appears to be crumbling in court.

Now the question is: Will liberal media take this as a lesson? Will it finally learn that in reporting the news it’s the facts, not the political bias of a liberal narrative, that should rule? Don’t bet the ranch.

Last question. Is Kyle Rittenhouse found innocent? Will Rittenhouse and the rest of his family start searching for a lawyer, following the lead of Nicholas Sandmann (and his young son) who used a lot of media, print and cyberspace to spread the liberal media narrative Rittenhouse is a white supremacist/cold-blooded killer.

Stay tuned.
