Is there a way to make black Americans own guns? Joy Behar thinks so.
On Wednesday’s installment of The ViewThey got to grips with gun control. Or they tried.
Joy was invited to join Sara Haines as co-host. Joy brought up a Tuesday discussion with Chris Murphy (Democratic Connecticut Senator). Joy then set her sights on the GOP.
“[T]Many members of the Republican Party have already stated that taking these AR-15s off market is not a good idea. It’s all about the guns, alright?”
Republican guest host Lindsey Granger — on-air ringmaster for Sony Pictures program Daily Blast LiveFormer national correspondent The list — interjected:
“Can I just say this, real quick, as a gun owner? There are people in this country that genuinely own guns, and just do so for the same reason…”
“An AR-15?” Joy asked.
Lindsey continued:
“Let me give you a story. There’s a man in Connecticut that watched his neighbor have a home invasion and watched their whole family get killed. He built his own AR-15 because Connecticut won’t let you buy them, but you can abide by rules that allow you to build them. He keeps one at home to safeguard his family. He is black. … So that’s all I’m saying: They’re not these crazy people.”
They aren’t? This would be news to those who rely on legacy news sources for their gun information. It seems that many who support banning AR-15s don’t know much about them. These are also the ones disseminating that information.
If I had to guess, if someone knowledgeable about guns were tied up in a small room at the hands of an irate criminal clutching a modern sporting rifle, they wouldn’t breathe a giant sigh of relief if the maniac switched to a Glock 19.
Most of us know that gun crime is largely attributed to handguns. FBI statistics indicate that of the 13927 murders, 10,258 were committed with firearms. Handguns were involved in 6,368 of those murders, while rifles were used in just 364.
Yet, the war against the AR-15 — which is not, in fact, a weapon used by Americans in war — continues.
Joy had an inkling about what the catalyst was that would help Republicans to be reformed in the 2nd Amendment area.
“Here’s the thing: Once black people get guns in this country, the gun laws will change. Trust me.”
She reiterated, “Trust me on that. We’ll see some action.”

Concerning assertions — if I properly understand — her statements make one or more of the following:
- Black Americans don’t own guns
- Black Americans can’t get guns
- Republican politicians are racist
- Racists are not welcome at the NRA
- The NRA members are racist
- Republican voters tend to be racist
A National Firearms Survey report on American gun ownership in 2021:
Only 42% are women and 58% are men. Blacks account for 25.4 per cent, Hispanics make up 28.3 percentage, Hispanics are at 19.4 percent, Asians hold the balance, while Whites control 34.3 per cent.
So if Joy wants black Americans armed, her wish is granted — there are even more American gun owners than she evidently assumed.
The NRA may one day discover the same. They probably already do. Joy may be surprised to hear about Colion Noir (an online pro-2A advocate, and ex-NRA TV man):
Furthermore, she should expect GOP legislators to get busy banning scissors — just as soon as black Americans get those. Of 2019’s nearly-14,000 murders, 1,476 — over four times the number of rifles — were committed with “knives or cutting instruments.”
And what’ll happen when black people obtain hammers? Republicans may drop the hammer: Blunt objects were utilized in 397 — still 33 more than rifles.
Perhaps conservatives think all Americans should be able to access the 2nd Amendment.
And just maybe — despite the perception of longtime hosts on The View —A lot of them are black.

Sunny Hostin, “Are You a Republican?”
Lindsey Granger: “Yes”
Sunny: “I feel like that’s an oxymoron, a black Republican.”
