When America Is Weak, the World Is Less Safe – Opinion

Vladimir Putin is an evil, brutal and vicious dictator. There’s no doubt about it. There’s only one bad guy in the Ukraine-Russia conflict. The war against him is imminent. The feeling of powerlessness as we watch our most powerful country bomb an ally without mercy should be a wake up call. America’s inconsistency and weakness makes the world more dangerous. Our nation’s politicians and business elites have made years of stupid decisions that have weakened this country to such a degree that we are paralyzed when a madman with nuclear weapons is on a rampage.

In 1994, the Clinton Administration led other world leaders in convincing Ukraine to give up its nuclear weapons in exchange for Russia, the U.K., and the US guaranteeing the country’s security. Had Ukraine kept its nuclear weapons, it is highly likely that this war would’ve never happened in the first place. Ukraine signed the Budapest Memorandum in the hope that it would be safe from attack. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in February “Ukraine has received security guarantees for abandoning the world’s third nuclear capability. We don’t have that weapon. We also have no security.” Our inconsistency and unreliability as a partner have left an ally vulnerable to the whims of a lunatic.

Today is a fast-forward and it’s clear that our leaders continue to make inconsistencies and poor decisions. Biden’s Administration irresponsibly hampered our ability to make our own oil. This made us energy independent again, and then back into dependence. As late as a few weeks ago, we were still buying Russian oil, helping to fund Vladimir Putin’s unjust war in Ukraine.

We were arrogant enough to think that climate change could be solved by destroying our economy, while China, India and Russia pollute the sky. This led to us to follow self-destructive strategies while our adversaries sold their resources. While our friends in Europe were dependent upon Russian oil, it was our leaders that sat silently. Instead of producing enough energy to sustain ourselves and our friends, we’ve allowed our energy policy to be dictated by progressive elitists who have the resources to isolate themselves from the consequences of their stupid decisions.

It was thought by elites from both sides that it would be a good idea for other countries to make things, while the United States transforms into an information and services-based economy. That boosted the power of the elites, at the cost of the working classes. This also meant that we were at the mercy the nations that created things in crisis. Our leaders exported jobs to other countries, which destroyed many American cities while enriching others like China. These leaders then use our money to rival us, and also align themselves with Russia.

Biden and other leaders around the globe refused to give Ukraine weapons until war had begun. They sat idly by while Putin amassed tens of thousands of troops on Ukraine’s border. Biden did not agree to expel Russian banks from SWIFT, until pressure came from other countries. Biden refused to stop Russian oil imports until political pressure made it impossible. Putin believed that Donald Trump was weak. He went after him.

Bad decisions have led to us here: our president, betraying our allies, is asking our enemies to increase oil production, while our nation watches helplessly as Putin attempts rebuild the Soviet Union. “Leading from behind” never makes the world a safer place. It does not stop wars. They are created by it.
