It’s been a long fight, but one of the reasons that people in Virginia — especially parents — voted for Glenn Youngkin for governor of the state was fulfilled today. Youngkin had pledged to end the mask mandate. He signed an executive to accomplish that on his first day in office.
The order was contested by some schools who sued to stop its implementation.
The governor today signed legislation banning mask mandates into law, proving that Youngkin, children and freedom won. The bill passed both the Senate and House on Tuesday, along with some Democratic support. So finally, parents and kids have the choice — if you want to wear a mask all day, go crazy, feel free. Schools will not be allowed to force children to wear masks.
The new law requires K-12 schools be open for instruction five days per week. This is a win-win for both the children and their parents.
There’s an amendment in the new law that requires it to take effect immediately, otherwise, they would have to wait until July 1 normally for it to take effect. Youngkin has given districts until March 1, to follow the new law.

Youngkin rejoiced that parents would have the ability to choose again. “Today, we are restoring power back to parents.” He said we are also reestablishing that we will be getting back to normal. “It is my distinct honor to sign Senate Bill 739 into law in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” he declared to cheers.
