USA Today Reporter Resigns After Getting Caught Fabricating 23 Stories

USA Today pulled 23 of their articles off its website after an internal investigation found that one of its reporters Gabriela Miranda had created sources.

“After receiving an external correction request, USA TODAY audited the reporting work of Gabriela Miranda. An audit found that certain individuals quoted weren’t affiliated to the organisations claimed, and it appeared they were fabricated. Independent verification of the identity of others quoted people was not possible. In addition, some stories included quotes that should have been credited to others” USA Today wrote in an editor’s note published on its site on Thursday afternoon.

“As a result, USA TODAY removed 23 articles from its website and other platforms for not meeting our editorial standards.” The note added that “Miranda has resigned as a reporter for USA TODAY and the USA TODAY Network.”

USA Today, according to an anonymous source, allegedly conspired to fool investigators who were looking for her sources. They fabricated fake evidence and conducted fake interviews.

Miranda’s most recent article for the outlet was published on April 17 about the Ever Forward cargo ship that was stuck in the Chesapeake Bay was freed after a month.

Miranda’s article about Georgia redistricting and Texas’ abortion laws was one of the many fabricated sources.

According to Miranda’s website, Miranda previously worked with The Gainesville Times covering education and Hispanic communities before she moved to USA Today. In 2021, she graduated from The University of Georgia.
