UPDATE: CNN Denied Attempted Kavanaugh Assassin Was Armed, Cries ‘Both Sides’

UPDATE: 6/8/2022, 3:00 PM Eastern. Three hours after initially trying to claim that Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s attempted assassination didn’t involve a weapon, CNN’s Whitney Wild admitted that the man did have a gun and a knife. Continue reading.

After taking over an hour to get to the major breaking story of the day Wednesday – the attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at his home earlier that morning – CNN’s Here’s What We Do tried to downplay the incident by suggesting the man wasn’t armed “at all” and tried to claim there were threats from “both sides” of the political spectrum.

According to reports, the assassin had a pistol, a knife and pepper spray. He was also angered at the draft decision, which could be overturned. Roe V. WadeWhitney Wild, CNN’s law enforcement correspondent, tried to minimize the whole situation and even denied that he was carrying any weapons.

“Very little detail at this point,” she asserted to host Kate Bolduan. “We don’t yet know what the nature of the threat was. “We don’t yet know the language in which this threat was spoken. Was or What kind of weapon might this man have used? He might have had one, because the information at this point is just so thin.”

It was a fabrication. It was a lie. “Man with weapon detained near Justice Kavanaugh’s home.”According to a report from NBC justice correspondent Pete Williams on MSNBC the previous hour, “he was armed with a gun, a knife, and pepper spray and told authorities that he was there to kill the Justice.”

Wild, who admitted to having a weapon, sent a tweet before Wild went on-air. “#Breaking Today @ 1:50 a.m. a man was arrested near Justice Kavanaugh’s residence. This man threatened Justice Kavanaugh and was well-armed.He was transferred to Montgomery County Police 2nd District. @cnn,” she wrote.

Wild attempted to make the argument that this attacker might be right-wing extremists in the live shoot. “This certainly contributes to this overall threat landscape we’ve been talking a lot about,” she said. In May, NewsBusters analyst Alex Christy reported that Wild was busy pushing this same shtick, blaming the right for Roe-related threats to the court (Click “expand”):

ALEX MARQUARDT CNN learned from CNN that U.S. Capitol Police have been preparing for massive demonstrations being organised by far-right groups in protest against abortion rights. CNN’s Whitney Wild, live today outside of the Supreme Court, has the most recent. Brittany, Whitney, is this what the authorities are afraid of?

WILD: Based on my conversations with law enforcement officers throughout the week, there’s a real risk that those who want to commit acts of violence extremism might use Roe v. Wade as justification. There is also the possibility that Someone would be willing to commit violence against you.Abortion providers against clinics; members of judiciary and federal officials. That includes Supreme Court justices..

With Wednesday’s attempted assassination, Wild tried to play the “both sides” card twice in less than 10 seconds. “This is an extremely passionate issue. Both sides have emotions. Federal officials repeatedly stated that they are convinced The risk is on both ends of this abortion debate,” she proclaimed.

Continuing to argue that people on the right would for some reason attack the Supreme Court for getting a ruling outcome they prefer, Wild concluded with: “People are angry, they might seek to use the abortion ruling as justification to cause violence and puts Supreme Court justices, their staff, and other members of the judiciary, especially the Supreme Court at risk.”

CNN has every right to criticize Republican politicians, but there were no condemnations of Democratic rhetoric. For instance, back in May, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer ominously warned that Justices Kavanaugh and Gorsuch would “pay the price” for possibly joining the majority in overturning Roe.

These bogus claims were first made three hours later. CNN NewsroomWild eventually had to admit her mistake and accept that Wild did indeed have a gun. He did indeed have a gun in his bag. Elle admitted. Police took him into custody and found his backpack, as well as his suitcase. [a]Black tactical chest rig with a Glock 17 pepper spray, zip tie, zip ties and a list of other items, including hiking boots.

He had clearly had liberal political tendencies that led him to want to kill Supreme Court Justice. She had to accept this, however reluctantly.

Leaked decisions on abortion upset him. The Justice could also be seen to support the Second Amendment. He may loosen gun laws. Another high-profile Supreme Court opinion is expected soon. We now have two highly-publicized Supreme Court opinions, one on abortion, and another about guns. He expressed anger at the potential ramifications for both.

Investigators were also informed that he stated to investigators that his goal was to live a fulfilled life. He believed that by murdering the Supreme Court Justice, this would accomplish that purpose.

She tried to discredit herself, though she had a history of suggesting that far-right sympathizers were the ones threatening her.

This try at downplaying the attempted assassination of a Supreme Court justice was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Wayfair and Applebee’s. You can find their contact information here.

KATE BOLDUAN, We do have news. Maryland police arrested an individual with a firearm near the home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Officials claim that the suspect made threats to the justice and was taken into custody. Whitney Wild, CNN live from Washington. She’s been following these breaking details. Whitney, are these the things you’re learning?

WHITNEY WiLD: Kate, the call for service was placed between 1:30 AM and 1:45 AM this morning. The Montgomery County Police Department responded to the call. This department is responsible for protecting the community where Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh resides and the other justices.

Montgomery police called the man. After assessing that the man had made threats to Justice Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court public info officers alerted them and the suspect was taken to one of their local substations. Now, we know the FBI as the leading agency in this.

Very little detail at this point, Kate, other than that say this man is – he’s an adult man from California. It is not yet known what the threat’s nature was. It is not known what language or weapon the man used to threaten us. We don’t know if he even had one, as the evidence is so sparse.

But Kate, this – this certainly contributes to this overall threat landscape we’ve been talking a lot about. The major concern here with this abortion ruling from federal officials – and they have been sounding the alarm on this for about a month – is that Supreme Court justices will certainly be, you know, potentially targeted by violent extremists who are angered over this pending ruling that is poised to strike down Roe V. Wade.

This issue is extremely emotional. Both sides have their emotions. Over and over federal officials made it clear that they think the risks come from both sides in this debate about abortion. This case is, as you can see, confirming what federal officials had been warning about. People might use the abortion ruling to justify violence, which puts at risk Supreme Court justices and their staff and all members of the judiciary especially the Supreme Court.

We are back.

BOLDUAN. Whitney, we are grateful for your breaking news. We’re going to continue tracking that and bring you more update as we get them. It’s a great gesture.

WHITNEY WILD : He told the police that he was experiencing suicidal thoughts, and had a gun in his bag. According to the indictment, he did indeed have a firearm inside his bag.

I will tell you the story. At 1:00 AM, U.S. Marshals witnessed this man get out of a taxi. The man was wearing all black. He was carrying a backpack. He also had a backpack. He walked along the street after he had seen those deputy marshals. He called 911 to report that he had suicidal thoughts.

After he was taken into custody by police, they discovered in his backpack and inside his suitcase black tactical box rig, Glock 17 pepper spray, zip tie, zip ties as well as a Glock 17 Glock 17 pistol, Glock 17 bullets, Glock 17 pepper spray, Glock 17 pepper spray, Glock 17 Glock 17 rifle, Glock 17 pepper Spray, Glock 17 Glock 17 Pepper Spray, zip ties, zip drivers, and a variety of items, including hiking boots.

They also read his Miranda rights to him while conducting their investigation. It was during this interview that he stated his intent to murder the Supreme Court justice at his home, and then kill him.

Leaked decisions on abortion upset him. The Justice could also be seen to support the Second Amendment. He may loosen gun laws. Another high-profile Supreme Court opinion is expected soon. We now have two highly-publicized Supreme Court opinions, one on abortion, and another about guns. He vented his anger over the potential consequences of each.

For weeks, both FBI agents and the Department of Homeland Security have warned about this.

Further, he told investigators that he wanted to give his life purpose and he thought that by doing this act, by killing the Supreme Court Justice – who was not named in the indictment, by the way – by killing the Supreme Court Justice, he would be able to do that. He told investigators that he wanted to kill the Supreme Court Justice and himself.

The man also stated that the Glock 17 and other products were purchased for this purpose. It is an extremely frightening case. The case reminds us of a Wisconsin murder that a man committed on Saturday.

Domestic violent extremism against the Supreme Court justices or their staff is very possible. This is an example of the kind of crime federal officials have been warning about ever since the leaked draft opinion, which shows that the Supreme Court will likely overturn it. Roe V. Wade happened. You are back.
