Univision Hyped January Jobs Report, Omitted Trump’s Record Numbers

Univision made it rain Benjamins for their report on the “unexpected and surprisingly good” January 2022 jobs report, contrary to its omission of the jobs miracle for Hispanics under the Trump administration. And despite the enthusiasm displayed by anchors Jorge Ramos and Ilia Calderon, not a word was said about how many of the new “over 460,000 jobs” were actually for Hispanics- their actual audience.

Watch Ramos and Calderon as they frame the January jobs report with $100 bills falling from the sky, something you never saw during the Trump jobs miracle for Hispanics:

ILIA CADERON: Experts and Jorge from the White House expected low job numbers. However, this latest report proves the opposite.

JORGE RAMOS. Maybe it was because over 460,000 U.S. jobs were created in spite of the continuing pandemic, which has continued to effect many American companies and many Americans who have resigned.

CALDERON – Luis Megid reports about this surprising job creation.

LUIS MEGID: In January, the nation’s economy surprised many by creating more than 467,000 new jobs despite being infected with omicron.

Let’s take a look back to the Trump jobs miracle. As MRC Latino noted in 2018, the lowest ever Hispanic unemployment rate was IGNORED by the Spanish-speaking media. Let’s not forget that, at the time, the 4.6% unemployment rate for Hispanics in the United States has been at its lowest level since 1973 when the agency began keeping statistics.

One would think that such a historic achievement would be heralded over the nation’s leading Spanish-language television news programs, but that was not the case despite Hispanic unemployment dropping to around 3 percent, with a booming economy and record numbers of Hispanics entering the workforce. Latino-interest media did not focus on Trump’s jobs until April 2020, when the Covid-induced unemployment collapse was occurring. As we reported at the time, “Univision and Telemundo couldn’t be bothered to cover it. After coronavirus-related job loss increased that figure to 18.9 per cent for April, Hispanic unemployment statistics were considered important enough to be covered and received a total of 6 minutes and 46 second coverage on May 8. Nearly eight times the coverage as for Trump’s record low Hispanic unemployment.

As a footnote, we’d like to point out that the introduction to Univision’s report lauding Biden’s January job numbers is much more enthusiastic than the report itself. As correspondent Luis Megid noted, “The increase in jobs practically guarantees that prices will continue to rise, forcing the (Federal Reserve) to increase interest rates.” It’s all about the fallen Benjamins.

ILIA CADERON: Experts and Jorge from the White House expected low job numbers. However, this latest report proves the opposite.

JORGE RAMOS. Maybe it was because over 460,000 American jobs were created despite the continuing pandemic, which has impacted many corporations and many Americans who have resigned.

CALDERON – Luis Megid reports about this surprising job creation.

LUIS MEGID: In spite of omicron’s wave infection, the nation economy thrives Surprisingly More than 467,000 people were employed in January. Additional 709,000 jobs were added by the revisions to November and December’s figures.

SERGIO URZÚA: It is a very positive fact. The market throughout this week was… I’d say, in a near-panic waiting for these figures.

MEGID – Although the economists incorrectly predicted a loss this number is actually much higher than they expected.

WOMAN WITH MASK: I do like it

MEGID. Although it might not be Sonia Ehod’s dream job, at least she can provide for her family.

MASK WOMAN: This mask has both the good and the ugly. There are some things that you can’t control.

MEGID – The government’s report on the employment market is great news. However, this does not mean that it will have an impact on inflation.Increased employment practically ensures that prices will rise. This forces the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates. And although it was easy for Alfredo Mendoza to get a job…

MENDOZA: In a flash. All in one click.

MEGID: … like many others, he thinks that things could be better.

MENDOZA – There are still many steps to be taken to boost the economy.

MEGID – The White House is trying change this negative perception during the recovery.

PILI TOBAR (WHITE HOUSE DEPUTY-DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS): While it’s difficult to imagine being caught in the middle or end of a pandemic situation, perhaps there is a way out. It’s also important to recall where we were one year ago and two years ago. That’s why people all over the country are being contacted.

MEGID: The optimism of analysts is cautious. These last years have had many surprises. San Francisco Luis Megid Univision.
