Two Weeks Into the Trucker Protest in Canada, They Show Fighting for Freedom Is Sexy Again – Opinion

Canada, I’ve got a confession for you. It’s possible that I am falling for you.

While I do love my country, it is clear that you don’t care as much about your freedom outfit these days. I hope you will inspire the rest of us to let go of the truck-size apathy that hangs around our waists, and follow your example so we can live in freedom like we did in the past.

It has been 12 days since your peaceful demonstration. I thought this would be an appropriate time for me to stop by and give a quick recap. Canada, I know you have been really busy and I can’t recap everything here in one post but I will revisit most of it soon.

Ottawa police have issued a temporary 10 day ordinance that will see any truckers who blared their horns be ticketed or arrested. You were so amazing! It stopped blasting the horns. One of your citizen journalists, “The Real Pat King,” showed live last night just how quiet the city had become while your Parliament was in session, debating things other than what is actually happening in the country.

This is a short clip from your Prime Minister speaking to colleagues and you all about his view of the situation after missing for 10 days during this peaceful protest.

Individuals are trying to blockade our economy, our democracy, and our fellow citizens’ daily lives and it has to stop. People of Ottawa don’t deserve to be harassed in their own neighborhoods, they don’t deserve to be confronted with the inherent violence of a swastika flying on a street corner or a confederate flag or the insults and jeers just because they are wearing a mask. That’s not who Canada or Canadians are, not what Canadians demonstrated over the past two years of consistently continually being of being there for each other. Ottawa and all Canadians deserve safety respect. They deserve their lives back.

Now, far be it from me, Canada, to correct or refute your Prime Minister but it seems to me that the last part of his quote above…

Ottawa, and all Canadians deserve safety respect. They deserve their safety restored.

You are exactly doing what you want.

You demand that your citizens’ safety is prioritized. Mandates should not be given by force and must be respected as a free will.

You are respectfully — and quite frankly, cheerfully — saying it is way past time to get your lives back and you are demonstrating this by holding BBQ’s and playing hockey right in front of the seat of your national government.

Your support is a sign that you are open to truckers, who have been asking your government for a halt to the knee-jerk directives. Your national media cannot refute the thousands of hours worth of footage that shows this across the country. Andrew Lawton, another member of good standing and citizen of this country, noted that all of you do it while looking incredibly tidy.

You smile at the federal and local government officials who have put up barriers against you. You politely request the individual to move on. It has never been this enjoyable since I visited your country. So when this is all over I’m going to ask you what your secret is because if it is not bottled yet it should be.

Canada and I have never always been able to see eye-to-eye on certain issues. We Americans can get a bit impatient — if the King doesn’t meet our demands in a timely manner (even though the boat trip back in the 1770s took three months), we tend to pop off and declare a revolution. Even though we haven’t gotten over Nickelback yet, we are always open to forgiveness.

You have been our closest friends for 154 years. Yet, in all that time you were here you have remained calm and collected. We never found you as passionate about pushing the envelope as you do. You have shown us how to organize a protest, and done it so well.

Your age is perfect and the freedom suit that you’re wearing looks great. We will continue to support you and your efforts. Keep going and keep moving forward.

We also forgive Nickelback.
