Tone-Deaf Meghan Markle Sparks Outrage With ‘Surprise’ Uvalde Visit – Opinion

On Friday, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex made an unexpected visit to Uvalde Texas to condolence, offer flowers and help with food distribution in the wake of the horrendous massacre on Tuesday that claimed the lives of two teachers and 19 children. This shooting has devastated a large number of people and caused chaos across the nation.

Reaction to Markle’s visit on social media was mixed, with some saying that she had “pure intentions” and a “wonderful heart,” but with many others claiming it was all a PR stunt:

Daily Mail report:

Markle was seen on Thursday placing a bouquet full of white roses outside Uvalde County Courthouse. It is located near the site of the murders at Robb Elementary school.  A volunteer at the Uvalde community centre told DailyMail.com that she also visited it, which is holding a blood drive. She toured the center and gave food. ‘She did not want anybody to know who she was,’ the person said.

While casually dressed in jeans and a baseball hat, the Duchess crossed her arms while she looked at memorials for the victims. People Magazine says a spokesperson for Meghan described her visit as being “a personal capacity as a mother, to offer her condolences and support in-person to a community experiencing unimaginable grief.”

Daily Mail commenters disagreed and condemned the visit.

You can fly private jet with an executive representative from your foundation. Your security guard. You might want to bring a few photographers. You can see them both in photos and the video as they leave the site. They are all surrounded by Meghan, their cameras around the neck, following their trail. Mission completed. Send some food and photos to the volunteers. It’s amazing how much you could have donated in cash, if you instead of sending a private aircraft in, simply made a check for the amount.

Many also noted that Meghan’s estranged father Thomas recently suffered a “massive” stroke and is currently in the hospital, where she has yet to visit him. Some people claimed there were Netflix cameras at the site. However, this has yet to be confirmed. The photos do show a security team. This makes her claim she did not wish to be recognised seem hollow.

To be fair, Meghan does have a lot of support, which I should mention, but some also reacted to critics by firing back with the expected charge of racism.

There’s a lot to criticize about Meghan Markle that has nothing to do with her race, folks. Her husband Prince Harry takes just as much criticism for his antics, and he’s not black.

Markle and Harry are no strangers to controversy, dramatically leaving the British royal family in 2020 because they wanted to leave their positions as senior royals and take a “progressive new role.” Whatever that means. The Queen refused to allow them to retain their titles or many of their perks. The couple also “begged for privacy,” but their constant public appearances suggest otherwise.

I personally never paid much attention to the Royal Family—to me, it was a British thing, not an American one. After I was married to a British Commonwealth family, I would often tune out of their lengthy, exaggerated discussions about what’s going on at the palace. I have no hatred for Meghan Markle and didn’t—until now—think her antics were of national import.

Meghan Markle has no reason to travel to Texas. The hearts of the victims’ parents are so broken right now; they don’t need a pseudo-princess traipsing about getting photographed. She’s a celebrity. Unless you are an expert offering concrete help—not just touring a blood donation facility—it’s better that you stay home. Beto O’Rourke, you officially have competition for the title of Most Tone-Deaf response to Uvalde.
