Tom Cotton Just Lights up Merrick Garland Over Project Veritas Raids – Opinion

Just today, Sen. Tom Cotton (R.A.) wrote to Attorney General Merrick Grland asking for permission to inject into his veins. Congress should do the same thing. Follow-up on the Biden Administration characters and make them accountable.

Cotton sent Merrick Garland a letter asking for answers to Friday’s raids on Project Veritas. He also makes some great points about the whole thing.

In its investigation of news media journalists, the Department of Justice follows regulations and rules. The regulations state the Department of Justice “views the use of certain law enforcement tools, including . . . search warrants to seek information from, or records of, non-consenting members of the news media as extraordinary measures, not standard investigatory practices.”

Given the execution of these search warrants were not “standard investigatory practices,” I have concerns about the origins of this investigation, the motivations of the investigations, and tactics used by your Department.

So the FBI went this route, even though they could simply ask for information. Garland, a journalist, has opposed the compulsory procedure.

Then the DOJ is trying to justify these raids as being in response to Ashley Biden’s stolen diary. Many have asked: Why did they take such federal action against Project Veritas because they were journalists who had the diary?

First, it wasn’t stolen, it was abandoned, according to James O’Keefe. Ashley Biden left it behind at a rehabilitation facility. However, even if it was stolen, this would be considered a state offense. This is how federal action can be justified.

Cotton mentions that the cases use the National Stolen Property Act. They are trying to show that the diary was taken from one state to another. That’s why they’re calling it “stolen” rather than abandoned, to shoehorn it into the NSPA to justify their actions.

Cotton makes fun of this excuse and requests Garland to give examples where they have used this method for abandoned property. The property must be valued at $5,000 to qualify for the act. He is curious to learn how that was calculated.

Then Cotton was really in demand of all their contacts with The New York Times. Given the leaks of information immediately following the raids as well as any investigations by the FBI into the leaks, Cotton demanded to know everything.

Cotton finally chose the brass ring.

4. Please provide all communications between officials from the Department of Justice and the White House concerning the investigation into the disappearance of Ashley Biden’s diary. The search warrants were issued for cellphones belonging to Project Veritas journalists.

Were we able to find backdoor communications with the White House, just as in the case of the NSBA letters that were a pretext to justify Garland’s federal action? Are you willing to place bets?

This is a fabulous letter from Cotton and it shows he gets it — in spades. This must be followed by actions to stop the corruption, to punish and to prevent them from repeating it. To stop such actions by the Democrats and Biden, we need to have people in the Senate and House willing to act.
