With the war in Ukraine still raging and hundreds of innocent Ukrainians are dying from indiscriminate Russian bombings, NBC’s Chuck Todd is more concerned that the war will distract Americans from the confirmation of President Biden’s Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and therefore deny Biden of a badly needed polling bump.
A discussion took place with the panel after which he will present his findings on Sunday. Meet the PressTodd switched the topic to Ukraine, and he turned it towards Judge Jackson’s confirmation hearings. Todd regretted that Jackson was not confirmed due to the Russian invasion Ukraine. “It feels like an afterthought.”
PBS: Turning on News HourAmna Nawaz was the chief correspondent for NBC. Todd inquired if Todd would be concerned that hearings wouldn’t receive as much attention. “Hit President Biden because he’s not getting a little bit afterglow?”
Todd was not directly answered by Nawaz, but he said instead that “One of the major questions is whether this has enough rally effects. This supportive effect carries on into the midterms because since the hearings are “Happening so soon” Senate “Democrats want to get it over by the Easter recess anyway.”
“So do Republicans. It seems that they want to have it all over.Todd said that because “they can’t quiz her about inflation.”
Chief Washington correspondent and MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell butted in remarking how she thinks the “Republican votes might have changed, because they now feel they need to be in lockstep with her.”Be careful before you start raving about the aforementioned. “historic moment”It is likely that Jackson was the first African-American woman nominated for the court.
Todd agreed and responded “That’s why it was important that we make a note here.

Eastern at 11:27.40CHUCK TODD: Next week was supposed–is the debut of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. And she–this is where it feels like it’s going to be an afterthought. In our traditional ways of talking about the Washington Post’s A4 story, it will. Is that a problem? Do you think that President Biden is hurt politically by not getting a bit of an afterglow from this?
AMNA NAWAZ – Is this enough to create a rally effect? This supportive effect carries on into the midterms. It is so soon. It’s not a problem that Democrats don’t want solved by Easter.
TODD: So do Republicans. It seems they want it all over.
NAWAZ: Right.
TODD: Because they can’t quiz her about inflation.
NAWAZ: They can ask her many questions. In many ways, it will be the same hearing that she had almost one year ago. Right? Many of the same problems will continue to arise. However, the lens has been completely refocused and not much has changed. America now pays more attention to many different issues.
ANDREA MITCHELL
TODD: Yeah it’s becoming a more party-line vote.
MITCHELL We shouldn’t forget that this is a historic moment.
TODD: You’re absolutely right. That’s why I wanted to quickly take note.
