The “Greens” promise renewables, solar and wind power, will replace fossil fuels. Because the sun and wind don’t pollute and are completely free of charge,
Oops.
While countries have embraced renewable energy, many are desperate to import coal, which is one of the most polluting fossil fuels.
They apologize. No. Greens will never be sorry.
Germany is a world leader in renewable energy. They were so certain of solar power and wind power, they shut down half their nuclear facilities.
Oops.
Germans now have to purchase fossil fuels from Russia because they are so powerless. Worse, Germany’s largest electricity source is now wind. This is really disgusting.
That’s because Germans are more expensive than Americans for electricity, even though they have put all of that smoke in the atmosphere.
My New videoJohanna Neumann (German-born environmentalist) is the person I am facing. This group advocates for renewable energy 100% of the time.
My argument is that even with massive subsidies renewables only provide 12% power, which I counter by pointing out. She responds, “Saying renewables are not yet powering our utility grid is like critiquing a 2-year-old for not being able to run a marathon.”
What about a 2-year-old? It’s not something I want to see. Not two, but 40 years of subsidies have gone into renewables.
“How we spend our taxes ought to be a reflection of our values,” Neumann adds. “Americans … love renewable energy.”
Yes, I suppose we do. It’s a great idea. Solar panels were installed on my roof. It would be foolish not to. Massachusetts gives me a tax cut on solar panels because it takes money from another state resident.
Even so, in winter my solar panels don’t work if the sun goes down or they are snowed on.
Is that the right kind of solution for energy? It’s not just when the sky is cloudy that people need to have energy. It’s also important when it doesn’t blow.
“When the sun goes down … offshore winds get cranked up,” says Neumann.
They don’t.
“The wind doesn’t always come up when the sun goes down,” I point out.
“Renewables are clearly better,” Neumann replies.
She claims that we can solve inconsistency with renewable energy through things such as storing energy into batteries.
A battery capable of holding energy for many weeks could make it possible for renewables to work. It doesn’t even exist.
“This is just a total fantasy, which is why nobody has done it anywhere, ever!” says Alex Epstein, author of “The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels.”
Epstein rightly points out that fossil fuels have moral value because it is essential for human well-being.
People with limited resources are most affected by the availability of fossil fuels.
“Three billion people in the world still use less electricity than a typical American refrigerator. Is it possible to give them modern living conditions? Because that’s going to depend on fossil fuels.”
Even though climate change is a real problem, fossil fuels help to reduce it by making us rich enough that we can afford climate protection.
“We have a 98% decline in climate-related disaster deaths over the last 100 years,” Epstein points out.
A 98% drop in deaths! This amazing tale is about fossil fuels and the many benefits they provide. Millions thrive because oil and natural gas provide energy so effectively, can heat homes even when they’re freezing cold, or pump water in droughts.
Thanks to fossil fuels, “We have this amazing productive ability,” says Epstein. “That’s the only reason we experience the planet as livable.”
Global warming is an issue. It will be even more difficult to address the consequences of global warming if we limit fossil fuels without an alternative.
We cannot survive without fossil fuels.
These are most important to the poor.
