The Left’s Effort to Cancel Dave Chappelle Goes Careening out of Control Again – Opinion

Leftist and liberal media don’t have any nuance. They take anything they think can hurt someone they want to cancel and run with it, whether it’s true or not; rarely do they look into the deeper story or see all sides to an issue. It’s always and only about how information can be twisted to serve the narrative. We see that with the ‘controversy’ over Joe Rogan, and we also see it with their effort to cancel Dave Chappelle. Chappelle is another person that doesn’t fit within their accepted narrative and has been a target of their cancel culture efforts.

On Thursday Chappelle found himself once more in the crosshairs of authorities after a viral video showing him protesting a plan for housing development went viral. His objections to proposed housing developments in Yellow Springs in Ohio, where he lives, were shown. With the plans to convert an abandoned firehouse into a restaurant or comedy club, he threatened that he would withdraw all the investment money he made in the area.

‘You look like clowns — I am not bluffing,’ a visibly emotional Chappelle told the Yellow Springs Village Council at a town meeting on Monday night. ‘I will take it all off the table.’

The comedian also told the meeting: ‘I don’t know why the council would be afraid of litigation from a $24 million-a-year company while it’s out a $64 million-a-year company. I cannot believe you would make me audition for you.’

The $24 million a year company is the housing development company; the $64 million a year company is Chappelle’s.

Many residents joined Chappelle in opposing the project. The plan was defeated.

They made Chappelle’s video viral and attacked him because he objected to the affordable housing plan.

But the problem was that wasn’t exactly true.

According to Dayton Daily News the proposed council vote on Monday night would include 64 single-family and 52 duplex homes as well as 24 townhomes. Additionally, an additional 1.75 acre will be donated to the community in order to build affordable housing later.

The council was unable to agree on the proposal and the zoning was reportedly reverted back to the approved plan: 143 single family homes, starting at $300,000.

In a small town of 3,700 people, that’s a huge increase. The high density was a big issue, and the fact that the citizens felt they weren’t sufficiently consulted.

Chappelle never objected to the “affordable housing” component. It is wrong to claim that he objected. Also “1.75 acres” for a plan at some point in the future isn’t a housing plan now, and it’s tiny. Unless you’re talking about an apartment building, how many “affordable housing” units would you even get?

DailyMail.com received a report Wednesday from a close source confirming that Chappelle is not opposed to affordable housing.

Chappelle supported affordable housing. However, the individual said the proposal is not of that nature.

‘The developers rushed the project, and got a sweetheart deal with council that was not properly vetted,’ the person said. ‘It doesn’t even include affordable housing.’

The source said the actor and comedian also opposed the original plan, so his objections didn’t have anything to do with “affordable housing.”

However, that didn’t stop a ton of people on the left from glomming onto the video and attacking Chappelle over his position. It also didn’t stop the reporting that didn’t dig into the deeper questions or recognize the plan didn’t have ActualIt is also affordable, as you can see from this report. Rolling Stone magazine.
