Germany is currently experiencing the highest COVID-19-related infection rate since before the outbreak. These numbers raise new questions regarding the effectiveness of mandated vaccines and masks.
Very few things on this planet piss me off more than being called “anti-science” by those who have zero clue as to what the science says or defend those who are lying about the science, based upon their total lack of interest in the truth. Certainly, I have angered a good many readers here at RedState by saying statistical facts like “You have less of a chance of being hurt by a vaccine than you do of contracting and being hospitalized for COVID-19.” I also know I trigger the left more often when I post things like “Dr. Fauci is a liar and should be in prison,” or “the data doesn’t support mask and vaccine mandates so implementation of such is just an act of maintaining government control.” Fortunately, (*clearing throat to prepare for Ben Shapiro impression*) “Facts don’t care about your feelings.” And neither does data.
In my last week’s piece, I challenged the notion that vaccinations provide any protection from being infected by COVID-19. We examined both infection rate and vaccine rate data, to find no correlation. Vermont has the highest new-case rate of any state, while West Virginia is the least.
Now out of Germany comes this: They are in the midst of the highest spread of COVID-19 since December of last year. What is the significance of this? Germany is the most challenging country in Europe for mitigation and mandates.
Germany has launched an offensive against those who are not vaccinated. The government removed any protections it had for them and maintained the protections they have for the rest. The government now requires that places of business provide a testing-alternative in place of proofs of vaccination. In addition, if an individual is infected or has a positive result, they will not be reimbursed for lost earnings. For a vaccinated individual who experiences the same, however, they will not cover that loss of earnings.
Germany has different levels of social distancing and masking requirements, which vary from one state to the next. However, all states seem to have some form of mandate about masking. The University of Maryland data shows that nearly 80% of Germans adhere to the masking requirement at all times, regardless of their mandate. These figures are much higher than those in the USA, which have a lower mask compliance rate of just 60%.
Yet despite one of the highest vaccination rates in the world at 67%, coupled with one of the highest mask compliance rates, Germany’s new case rate has skyrocketed to levels that haven’t been seen since the start of the pandemic.
From Reuters
The seven-day incidence rate – the number of people per 100,000 to be infected over the last week – rose to 201.1, higher than a previous record of 197.6 in December last year, the figures from the Robert Koch Institute showed on Monday.
From 4,767.033, a day before, the number of coronavirus confirmed cases increased to 4,782,546. There were 96 558 deaths in total, an increase of 33.
It is amazing to me how data keeps coming in that shows vaccines and mandates don’t do much, if any, to stop the spread of COVID-19. Certainly, the argument could be made that it would be worse if there was a lower vaccination rate and mask compliance rate, however again, the data doesn’t support that. The infection rate in populations with a lower vaccination rate or mask compliance rate does not rise and oftentimes is higher than countries that have higher mitigation compliance rates. Germany’s case load is unprecedented despite all its mitigation and compliance efforts. Sweden, on the other hand has an average mask compliance rate of 5% and a 68% vaccination rate. It has not had any government lockdown measures but is currently at 11% of its peak. The Czech Republic is right next door to Germany. Only 57% of its population are completely vaccinated. 60% less of their population adheres to the requirements for mask compliance. Although they have not had any lockdown measures in months, they still rank at 59% below peak. These states would be much more successful if vaccines and masks had the same effectiveness as they are promoted to have.
Yet, Germany doesn’t get it all wrong. Many of the lockdowns have been removed in favor of a voluntary system offering two standards: 2G and 3. (*adjusts tinfoil hat* 2G + 3G equals 5G?! *Gasp* – a joke, AP fact-checkers!) The 2G standard allows those who have been immunized against COVID-19 to enter businesses which implement them. 3G standards extend the requirements by allowing those who have had recent negative tests. The businesses (also known as brothels) have the option of choosing what level to apply and how to enforce them. The most fascinating part about the German regulations is that they required immunization to include people who were previously diagnosed with COVID-19 and have recovered fully. As part of legislation that judges immunity, it is one of the most scientific methods. It would be great if they could do it here in the United States.
This is what you should take away. This is the same thing as in any other pieces I have written about this topic. I am not afraid to counter the ideas that “friendlies” to RedState may carry nor that of the Branch Covidian left, despite the hate-train that may come rolling into the comments section. The data here is clear: Vaccines do not stop the spread and are not correlated to a lower infection rate. Same goes for mask compliance rates and mandates. They would have all the states and countries that had complied with the mitigation measures on one side and none on the other. That just doesn’t seem to be happening on a reliable basis, or anywhere near a level to associate a causal relationship between the two.
Do I think it is going to change any government’s mind? NOPE.
