Thanksgiving Once Again Reveals Why Woke Progressives Are the Absolute Worst – Opinion

Everything is destroyed by the progressive left. At least, it seems that’s what they try to do anytime other people are having fun. This year’s Thanksgiving holiday is no different. Many prominent leftists used Twitter to remind Americans that Turkey Day is just another symbol for white supremacy.

They slammed Thanksgiving as a symbol of oppression, in typical virtue-signaling fashion. Other people claimed that the holiday is actually a celebration of Native Americans being killed.

We have first Dr. Gillian Battino who is running to fill a Maryland Senate seat. She posted a tweet declaring that the holiday’s history is “deeply intertwined with colonialism, violence, and white supremacy.”

She said:

November is #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth! It is the time when we celebrate our country’s rich history, culture, contributions and accomplishments. #Thanksgiving’s history is interwoven with violence and colonialism.

United We Dream, a left-wing organization that boasts that it is “the first & largest immigrant youth-led organization in the nation,” publicly affirmed that it acknowledges how Thanksgiving “impacts indigenous people today.”

They also tweeted:

Recognizing the terrible effects of colonization, white supremacy and how it impacts the indigenous population today, we are mindful of the human cost. This Thanksgiving we remember the hard work needed to liberate our Native Allies and loved ones.

Tommie Sunshine, who identifies as a “sub-cultural historian” and activist, also linked the holiday to white supremacy:

let’s show thanks to those ancestors who were here long before us as today is their day & we should celebrate their sacrifice & the damage inflicted on them in the name of “progress” instead of racism, genocide & white supremacy. #Thanksgiving #NativeAmerican

Vinny Arora, Dean for Medical Education at Chicago University’s Pritzker School of Medicine, also referenced the genocide of indigenous people:

You can find this article and many others. #Thanksgiving, as we give thanks, let’s also acknowledge the holiday’s origins in the genocide of indigenous people who gave their lives and land and whose descendants continue to suffer from inequity today.

Comedian Hari Kondabolu slammed the holiday, claiming it is only about eating “unhealthy food.”

Twitter:

Thanksgiving is a holiday when we ignore racism & genocide eat lots of unhealthy food.

It’s like the history of America in a day. #Thanksgiving

Last, but definitely not least, we have Lola Méndez, Queer Latina journalist who claims the holiday “commemorates” the “slaughter” of millions of indigenous people. She said:

Thanksgiving is a celebration of and praises the killing of at least 56million Indigenous peoples (estimated as 90% of the total population of Americas) since 1600s, which was the largest genocide in human history. People of Latinx descent like myself, are miracles.

We can count on progressive left to throw a blanket of wetness on any occasion that may cause chaos, be it a holiday, an event or other situation. It’s what they do best, isn’t it?

This isn’t to say that the brutal aspects of American history should not be talked about. These conversations are justified, provided they are conducted in good faith.

But using the tragedies that occurred around the time of Thanksgiving to signal one’s virtue is peak progressivism and completely obnoxious to the rest of the country. Americans should reflect upon all the things they are thankful for on this holiday. This holiday is an opportunity to reflect on what’s good in your life and not dwell on the bad.

Perhaps this is because the hard left isn’t too keen on the idea of gratitude. If someone is thankful, they don’t complain, which is why complaining is their favorite thing to do. It is not clear that many of these individuals can see both the good and the bad. But then again, if they were to do so, it might be a tad bit more difficult to push their agenda, wouldn’t it?
