Stelter Denounces Balanced Media Coverage of Roe Overturn

On CNN’s Reliable sources, host Brian Stelter opened the show on Sunday with a panel discussion on the fallout from the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade. Being a media focused show, Stelter and his guests focused heavily on the media coverage in the aftermath of the court’s ruling on Friday.

Stelter objected to split screens on many television news stations that featured pictures of prolife people cheering each other and pro-abortion supporters crying and screaming the other. That 50/50 split made Stelter upset because, according to him Americans’ opinion on abortion isn’t split 50/50.

“I see all these split screen images. One person who’s cheering, another person who’s jeering. Sometimes I see the opposite, and sometimes I see joy. That 50/50 split, isn’t that actually misleading, isn’t that actually distorting?”Stelter whined.

Kate Smith, a former activist for covert abortion and now activist for Planned Parenthood’s baby-murder mill Planned Parenthood, agreed to this: “Absolutely, Brian. That is a complete distortion of the facts that we know about how people feel about abortion access and specifically the legality of abortion.”

Smith added that “we know that eight in ten Americans want abortion to be legal. So when you put that split screen up of one person who loves it and one who hates it, well that’s completely ignoring the facts.”

Stelter jumped in to tout a new poll from CBS News which reportedly shows “nine percent of Americans say illegal in all cases. All the rest said it was illegal in many cases, legal for most of them, or all three. Only nine percent of Americans say it should be completely illegal in their state” Stelter excitedly announced.

Smith bemoaned that “we have states that are doing exactly that. The Roe ruling was before Oklahoma passed a ban against abortion at fertilization. I mean, how many Americans agree with that?”

According to Stelter, showing both sides of an issue isn’t fairness or objectivity. Fairness would be featuring a side based on the percentage of the public’s approval. Stelter is once more a Democrat operative.

This bizarre segment was created by Volkswagen. The information of both is linked.

BRIAN STALTER: Take a look at the coverage of the last few days. Kate, these are all split-screen images. One person who’s cheering, another person who’s jeering. There are tears one side, and celebrations the other. That 50/50 split, isn’t that actually misleading, isn’t that actually distorting?

KATE SMITH : Yes, Brian. It is completely misleading what we know about the feelings of people about abortion access, and more specifically about the legality. It is known that 8/10 Americans would like abortion legalized. So when you put that split screen up of one person who loves it and one who hates it, well that’s completely ignoring the facts.

STELTER – Which, to be fair, we are currently doing.

SMITH: Where’s your news director? No, I’m kidding you.

STELTER: I am the only one responsible. The videos were chosen by me. However, I chose these videos because I believe this to be an important issue. According to a new CBS poll, the legality of abortion in your particular state should be: 9 percent believe that all abortions are illegal. Rest of the population say it is illegal in almost all cases. Nine percent of Americans believe it should be totally illegal in their states.

SMITH: Yet, there are states doing just that. We saw Oklahoma ban abortion at fertilation before the Roe decision. How many Americans would agree to that?
