The Cuomos are the ones who get karma.
Andrew Cuomo was forced to resign and is facing multiple investigations; his brother Chris Cuomo was also fired from CNN after more texts about his involvement in his brother’s defense were revealed, showing he talked about digging up dirt on his brother’s accusers. He was also charged in another incident of sexual harassment shortly before his firing.
Now a little justice is hitting both Cuomos — right in the wallet.
Chris Cuomo signed a contract to author a book about the Trump years, COVID-19 pandemic and other topics. Does anyone want to guess how it was going to be attacking President Donald Trump and praising his brother, without mention of his brother’s nursing home scandal?
But looks like the book, “Deep Denial,” has been pulled by HarperCollins Custom House and will no longer be published after Cuomo was fired from CNN. “Custom House does not intend to publish the Chris Cuomo book,” a spokesperson said.
That’s not all.
New York’s ethics panel has ordered Andrew Cuomo’s pandemic book deals to be paid to the state.
The Joint Commission on Public Ethics had permitted Cuomo to earn outside income from his book, “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic” under certain provisions, including that he did not use state resources or government staffers in the effort behind the book. The Commission withdrew their approval of the book because Cuomo ignored those requirements.
I wrote in April about how the staffers dropped a dime on him, saying helping him was “not optional” — that they were forced as early as June and July of last year, which was right around the time that the cover-up happened of the nursing home scandal. In April, I wrote about how he planned to cover up the number of deaths so that his book would sell well and he could be portrayed as a panademic hero. This is more tragic if that was the case.
Now, the Commission has voted 12-1 in favor of Andrew Cuomo giving back his profits.
The resolution, drafted by commissioner David McNamara, a Senate Republican appointee, said Cuomo now “lacked the legal authority to engage in outside activity and receive compensation in regard to the book” since JCOPE rescinded its approval.
“Gov. Cuomo is not legally entitled to retain compensation…for any form of outside activity related to the book,” McNamara said.
The panel found Cuomo’s book proceeds should be turned over to state Attorney General Letitia James — whose office’s investigative report forced the three-term Democrat’s resignation after substantiating a slew of accusations of mistreatment and harassment leveled against the disgraced ex-governor by current and former staffers.
“It is ordered that by no later than 30 days from the date of this resolution, Gov. Cuomo pay over to the attorney general of the State of New York an amount equal to the compensation paid to him for his outside activities related to the book,” the resolution says.
Cuomo’s lawyers are flipping out, claiming they’re exceeding their authority and that they will sue them.
“JCOPE’s actions today are unconstitutional, exceed its own authority and appear to be driven by political interests rather than the facts and the law,” said Cuomo attorney Jim McGuire.
“Should they seek to enforce this action, we’ll see them in court.”
It couldn’t happen to a more deserving person than Andrew Cuomo. Hopefully, it’s some measure of justice to the families of the people who suffered because of his nursing home order and the cover-up.
Fox’s Janice Dean, one of those people, was thrilled by the news.
