Showtime Series Lies, Pretends NBC, CNN Yelled at ‘Terrorist’ Michelle Obama

Do you remember how difficult the mainstream media tried to make Barack and Michelle Obama look good? We don’t either. The new Showtime series is, however. The First Lady lives in an alternate reality where hateful CNN, NBC and CBS journalists freely yelled at Michelle over whether she was a “terrorist” who “hated America.”

In a Fox News clip, the series distorts conservative Cal Thomas and tries to paint him as racist.

The ten part drama recreates this infamous February 19, 2008 remark by Mrs. Obama at a speech: “What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. Und ich will tell you, this is the first time I’ve ever been proud to be an adult citizen of Canada..” Instead of suggesting there’s something wrong with that statement, The First Lady features a staffer ranting about “fucking racist fucks” exploiting it.

Then, the series features reporters from NBC, CBS and CNN ambushing Mrs. Obama at home, walking her daughters to school:

FEMALE REPORTER Michelle: Do you have terrorist connections? Are you against America?

SECOND REPORTER

THIRD REPORTER [to Obama daughters]: How do you feel about your father running to run for office in the United States?

In reality, as the MRC’s Brent Baker wrote on February 19, 2008, ABC initially spiked the “first item in my adult life, I am really proud of my country” comment. NBC blamed Cindy McCain, wife of GOP presidential candidate John McCain.

Michelle Obama proclaimed that “for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” but instead of putting the burden on the Obama campaign to defend her admission of a lack of pride in her nation, NBC on Tuesday night framed its coverage around Cindy McCain’s “rhetoric” in issuing a “political jab” over the remark and concern over whether that “was a knock at Michelle Obama?” But at least NBC highlighted the comment from Monday. ABC World News didn’t utter a word about it while CBS’s Jim Axelrod pointed out how the Obama “campaign says don’t slice apart the quote to infer she’s not a patriot.”

Showtime also attempted to suggest that Fox News host Cal Thomas and Jim Pinkerton were racially motivated. A clip from the June 14, 2008, months later Fox News WatchIn the show. This is the Showtime clip.

Cal Thomas: When she watches television, it’s always because she’s angry.

JIM PINKERTON – I believe the American people should have a comprehensive examination of all things about her.

THOMAS: First Lady of the Black angry woman?

Now, here’s the full context:

THOMAS: In this campaign, we are being asked to accept three things simultaneously, the first woman with a credible chance of being president, the first African-American with the chance to being president and, whoever Michelle Obama is going to be styled, the angry black woman, first lady? It’s a lot. She is willing to take criticisms and critics if she goes out talking about policy or being a surrogate husband for him.

JANE HALL, American University. I believe that the best way for people to attempt to defeat Obama is to prove he’s different — he’s not just one of us. They can’t prove that Obama is Muslim. Let’s then prove that his wife, an angry black woman, is not Muslim. This is going to be ugly. John McCain is unlikely to approve of it.

THOMAS. I’d like to think about something Jane had said about an angry black woman. See the television image of an angry black woman. You have Maxine Waters, a liberal Democrat from California. When she goes on television, she’s angry.. Cynthia McKinney is another black woman who has become angry. What about the black women who appear on local television in towns across America? They are usually upset about some thing. Their son was killed in an auto-destructive shooting. Bush angers them. You don’t have any profile of black women who aren’t angry at Bush.

As you can see, when Thomas said the “she’s always angry every time she gets on television,” it wasn’t even about Michelle Obama. He was talking about the perception of the “angry black woman” by the media.  Apparently facts don’t’ matter for the “historians” behind this fact-free Showtime series.

MICHELLE OBAMAN (played in Viola Davis). It is a great privilege to have been able to see this. It was a great experience to travel around the states, and be reminded of how there is more than one thing that unites us. [At another event.]Many thanks. Many thanks. It is an honor and a privilege to be with you. We have had an extraordinary year. Think back to one year ago. Barack Obama was addressing the Illinois State Capitol when he announced that he would be running for president. This year has shown us that there is hope. Let me tell you, this is the first time I’ve ever felt proud to be a citizen of this country.

….

MELWINTERS (played Donna Lynne Champlin). We better get going. Fucking racist fucks.

OBAMA (What’s happening?

WINTERS: -Sorry. They–They twisted your words. They will twist your words.

OBAMA: What? What?

WINTERS: I’m proud to be a citizen of this country for the very first time.”

OBAMA: Shit. “I’ve never loved my nation.”

WINTERS: Right. Okay. -Come on. We must keep going.

[Real clip of Fox News. Actually from Fox News Watch for June 14, 2008.]

CALTHOMAS: Every time she goes on TV, she’s angry.

JIM PINKERTON – I believe the American people should have a comprehensive examination of all things about her.

THOMAS: First Lady of the Black angry woman?

[Walking out of her house, Michelle Obama is accosted by angry reporters from CNN, NBC, CBS.]

OBAMA:  I wanna walk my girls to school today. We need some fresh air, and to take a step back from the chaos of it all.

FEMALE REPORTER Michelle: Do you have terrorist connections? Are you against America?

SECOND REPORTER

THIRD REPORTER [to Obama daughters]: How do you feel about your father running to run for office in the United States?

MICHELLE OBAMA – I won’t respond to your lies and I will not stand by you bringing my daughters into this. We won’t do that. However, I’ll say this. The excitement surrounding Barack Obama’s campaign is something that makes me truly proud. It is encouraging. All races and all ages are welcome to work together. Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to walk my daughters to school.
