Nancy Pelosi being banned from receiving the Eucharist is a news story that’s been in the media longer than the New York subway gunman. The “devout” Catholic has long been a rabid supporter of abortion without limits, causing many to wonder why she has been allowed to continue to remain in good standing with the Church.
Pelosi voted in favor of a bill which would allow abortion to be legalized and expanded up until the time it is legally delivered at all levels, including federal. The San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone took action. Now, he’s directly addressed the matter, confirming what many suspected about his reasoning.
Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House has strong views on Church teachings but is not right. And that is part of why I had to act.https://t.co/37QTAGJYwK

While I don’t personally agree with the distinction that was made here (because I believe support of abortion Period should be disqualifying), it seems where Pelosi screwed up wasn’t her championing of abortion, but the fact that she has continually used her Catholicism itself as support for her deadly position.
The Archbishop cites a number of examples in this article.

While speaking with The Seattle Times editorial board, Pelosi said, “The very idea that they would be telling women the size, timing or whatever of their family, the personal nature of this is so appalling, and I say that as a devout Catholic.” She added, “They say to me, ‘Nancy Pelosi thinks she knows more about having babies than the pope.’ Yes I do. Are you stupid?”

Pelosi talked about legalized abortion. She also argued that Roe v. Wade should be upheld by the Supreme Court.
“It isn’t about what is your religious belief,” she said. “It’s what is the right of people to make their own decisions about the sizing and time, or if they’re going to have a family. This really gets me burned up, in case you didn’t notice, because, again, I’m very Catholic — devout, practicing, all of that. They would like to throw me out, but I’m not going, because I don’t want to make their day.”
All of these instances are backdated to 2008 which raises another question: how did she manage to avoid scrutiny from the Church so much? I think the answer revolves around a fallacious assumption that politicians must be left alone lest the Church itself become “political.” Yet, when someone with such power blatantly and maliciously continues to lead others astray while using their religion as backing for their abhorrent position, that would seem to make the issue not simply “political” anymore.
Pelosi ought to have been expelled from communion years ago. And while I understand Protestants allow self-selection when it comes to communion by citing the 11th chapter of 1st Corinthians (I’m Protestant, so I’m hardly denouncing that viewpoint), like it or not, that’s not how the Catholic Church works. It is the Archbishop’s duty to protect his flock, and that’s what he did by finally dropping the hammer on Pelosi, in more ways than one.
It is not difficult to see why a decision so simple as denial of communion to someone who supports the killing of children from birth has drawn criticism from the entire left. Reading through the replies to the Archbishop’s tweet is a masterclass in what idiocy looks like.

It’s actually kind of amazing that you’re obsessed with pushing your weight around on this, when there is a *serious opportunity* for life-saving gun reform to be achieved. It’s shocking the Catholic Church wouldn’t want to be a bigger part of it…

It is outrageous that the Archbishop would protect unborn millions when gun control laws and other ineffective measures are available. It’s all just so stupid, and it shows how angry the left gets when they can’t control every aspect of society. The Church is not sacred any more. Everything must be taken down and reformed in the spirit of radical progressivism.
