One month ago we reported on Ron DeSantis making a direct threat at the Biden administration after discovering multiple illegal immigration planeloads were flying into his state under radar.
To quickly recap, the Florida Governor’s public safety czar Larry Keefe told the DC Examiner at the time that “over the course of the summer through September … over 70 air charter flights [on] jetliner airliners coming from the southwest border have landed at Jacksonville International Airport.” O’Keefe also said that “on average, there’s 36 passengers on each of these flights” and that no one in the administration would give Florida any specific info on the oversight of the flights in terms of who was dictating what, etc.
DeSantis responded by telling Tucker Carlson on Fox News that the state was looking into ways to end the practice, or reverse it if it continues to occur. He also mentioned fighting back against contractors the administration may have used for the flights. He also threatened to send future planeloads to Joe Biden’s home state of Delaware in hopes that he would finally get the message.
In an update to this story, DeSantis announced late last week week that he’s including $8 million in his proposed “Freedom First” budget to help fight back against the administration’s efforts to dump illegals in states like his.
During a recent press conference in Jacksonville, DeSantis talked about the budget and zeroed in on the one thing that would get Joe Biden and Democrats to secure the border immediately instead of throwing the doors wide open like they normally do: Flying those same illegal immigrants that they are sending to Florida and elsewhere to Delaware or Martha’s Vineyard instead:

Indeed. Democrats are infamous for going all “NIMBY” when the policies they advocate suddenly hit a little too close to home.
DeSantis also discussed his plan on Laura Ingraham’s program last night, noting that the Biden administration shuffling illegal immigrants around in such a way was akin to a “mass human smuggling operation.” He also pointed out that not only was he going to push for legislation that would bar the carriers who are helping the Biden administration from doing business with the state or local governments but that he would also be looking to make the carriers pay restitution to the state for each illegal immigrant they bring to Florida as it relates to all the costs associated with them once they’re on Florida soil:

DeSantis’s critics, of course, have suggested that him fighting back against the illegal immigrant flights prove that he’s a “racist” or whatever, a ridiculous claim for multiple reasons, with perhaps the biggest one being the murder of a Florida man by an illegal immigrant who DeSantis says was on one of those flights:
A 24-year-old Honduran immigrant who’s charged with murder in the brutal stabbing death of a Florida man had crossed the US border illegally months earlier while posing as an unaccompanied minor, an investigation by The Post found.
Yery Noel Medina Ulloa was caught Oct. 7, in Jacksonville. He was discovered covered in blood, having allegedly killed Francisco Javier Cuellar. The 46-year-old father of four had accepted the illegal immigrant and told authorities that he was 17 years old.
Considering the likelihood that none of the illegal immigrants being flown in have been properly vetted for potential safety and security risks (not to mention COVID risks), I’d say DeSantis’s emphasis on stopping them before the issue gets out of hand is a smart move, and certainly demonstrates the type of leadership that we will not ever see come from the Biden White House.
