Univision’s homage to Pride Month took a bizarre twist at the network’s midday news edition with its mandatory inclusivity story of the day and, lo and behold, they just about added a new letter to the ever growing LGBTQIA2S+ acronym: “I” for INCEST.
Speaking under a ´Trending!´ screen graphic and lovey dovey visuals, anchor Carolina Sarassa, of Noticiero Univision: Edición DigitalCarley and Mercedes are a TikTok couple who have just found out that they can be real-life sisterhood.
NOTICIERO UNIVISION, EDICIÓN DIGITAL 6/22/2022:
CAROLINA SARASA, Meanwhile, another story went viral. The story concerns a couple of well-known TikTok girlfriends who received some surprising news. Mercedes and Carley discovered that their mother told them they were sisters two years ago. They are now asking for support from their supporters and will take a DNA test to confirm it.
Univision, we have good news. Insect is not cute, nor normal. It’s a crime. Even in this case, where the women were apparently unaware of the possibility of being siblings until “their mothers told them that they dated the same man”, this bit of information fails to merit the sympathy or support of Univision´s audience; as conveyed by Sarassa, “they are asking their followers to support them.”
Incest normalization is unacceptable in the media. Pride Month, just like other commercial Hallmark holidays/celebrations, is a media advertising dollar for networks. Univision’s content editors, however, have to be more effective in finding relevant material that will please sponsors.
McDonald’s must be held accountable for sponsoring such moral stories as this one. Let them know. Here.
