As they celebrated what they deemed a great Wednesday morning, the broadcast networks ABC, CBS and NBC were buoyant. “resounding victory” And “earthquake” Kansas has abortion as a legal option. “massive show of support”It was defeated a referendum to give the Sunflower State legislature power to adopt pro-life laws.
ABC’s Good Morning AmericaRobin Roberts, co-host of the show, hyped it “voters…[made] a statement about abortion rights” that would have “remove[d] protections” for women to kill their unborn child. Kansas bans abortion after twenty weeks.
Co-host and former Clinton official George Stephanopoulos called it a “surprising” result on a referendum that must have “triggered a strong backlash” in “a deep red state where there are far more Republicans than Democrats.”
Nowhere in ABC’s coverage (and on CBS and NBC) was the fact mentioned that not only does Kansas have a Democratic governor, but three of the last five have been Democrats.
Rachel Scott, the congressional correspondent was always liberal and gushed from Kansas about her experience as a lackey. “was a massive show of support for abortion rights in a conservative, traditionally red state less than six weeks after Roe Vs. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court.”
“Voters in this state of Kansas sent a message that the right to abortion should be protected,” Scott continued before he bragged over the applause at the gathering of pro-abortion supporters when the results were announced.
Not surprisingly, Scott’s reporting over two segments featured eight pro-choice soundbites to only four expressing a pro-life view.
She continued to brag: “The first political test in a post-Roe America, handing abortion rights groups a major victory.”
CBS Mornings wasn’t any better. Nate Burleson, co-host of the show, was quick to announce it in an opening tease. “A big win in Kansas for abortion rights advocates. It means for America and the midterms Roe v. Wade.”
Jericka Duncan as fill-in was equally jazzed. “We begin with important primary election results, including a major victory for supporters of abortion rights. They celebrated in Kansas last night after voters rejected a move to remove abortion right protections from the state’s constitution.”
Caitlin HUEY-BURNS, political correspondent from Kansas, said that Kansas is the “most democratic state in America.” “resounding victory for abortions rights supporters” “could have national implications”
Quinton Lucas was the Kansas City Mayor of Missouri. An energized Huey Burns asked him what it would be like if he could answer these questions. “what happens here in Kansas could be a roadmap for other states.” Of course, Burns said “it is a roadmap for how…we make sure that we are asserting, defending, and protecting the rights of women to have access to care in any part of the country.”
On NBC’s TodayHoda, Hoda’s cohost and host of The Hoda Show, was a follower to ABC and CBS and teased it right from the start: “On the ballot. Kansas voters overwhelmingly voted to preserve abortion rights overnight. Nation’s first polling station since the overturning Roe v. Wade. Just ahead: the effect on other states’ battles[.]”
Kotb said the following to Hallie Jackson (an experienced Washington reporter). “[v]oters…sen[t] a strong message by striking down a proposed amendment that would have removed abortion protections from the state constitution.”
Jackson said that Kansas’s referendum had been declared illegal. “suggest[s]The end ofRoe vs. Wade is motivating voters,”However, at the close of the 7:00 a.m. Eastern reports she reminded her fellow liberals of “big picture”This “it’s not just going to be abortion on the ballot” In November, voters will be examining the economic state and the inflation.
Prior to that, however, she ginned up her side (click “expand”):
JACKSON – This is a huge victory for pro-abortion rights advocates in Kansas’ conservative state of Kansas. Kansas voters rejected an amend that would have eliminated abortion protections in the state constitution. In effect, the amendment allowed the procedure to continue.
PRO-ABORTION TACTIVIST: We are so grateful and overjoyed. [SCREEN WIPE]Kansas required us to act.
JACKSON: President Biden overnight saying the vote “makes clear what we know: the majority of Americans agree that women should have access to abortion.” It’s the first time abortion has been on the ballot since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Kansas results indicate that abortion rights advocates are energized by the court’s decision, less than 100 day before midterm elections.
PRO-ABORTION ACTIVIST: I hope we inspire other states when they get the opportunity to vote to really think about a woman’s choice.

JACKSON: [Y]Look at this turnout. You can see how big it was. It was almost twice the amount of voters who returned to the polls in 2018’s primaries. And when you dig into the numbers, when you — when you really get into it, there’s a suggestion that a sizeable number of Republicans voted for protecting the current abortion access in Kansas. This is evident in the difference in how many Republicans voted on the Kansas abortion measure versus in the Kansas primaries.

JACKSON It was like a political earthquake this morning in Kansas. It was a decisive win for supporters of abortion rights with Kansas voters rejecting an amendment which would have stripped those protections out of the state constitution. Turnout — this was a big deal —near double the number of people voted on Tuesday than in the 2018 primaries…suggesting the court’s decision is really galvanizing abortion rights supporters for now.
